Maria Taylor's response to Coach Saban on the Paul Finebaum show

Someone's opinion is not news. It's their opinion.
When they put it out there, it becomes news. Facts be damned. The average person who knows no better thinks it factual. Look how divided the country is now on account of it, but I digress.

He called in Booger McFarland and brought the whole thing up again to get his reaction to it. Boog then proceeded to say how outrageous it was for Nick to do what he did and blah blah blah.

They are going to squeeze every drop out of this story that they can.

I never watched or listened to Finebaum until I retired. At first I enjoyed it, but realized that his call in format and having the same on set guests wore thin quickly. I believe his show has run its course and ESPN will look for a newer fresher approach to covering college football.

Also, I have notice that McFarland, although an LSU player, is not a fan of CNS or Alabama, unlike Marcus Spears. He comes across as jealous of the fact that Spears played for CNS when LSU was very good unlike his career at LSU.

Again - it's not the same thing. Look at your post.

Calling Coach Saban a bully and saying he's classless is IMO fake news. Both of which the media did. We all know that he's no bully and no way classless. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

You called someone's opinion fake news.

Just because someone continues to discuss their opinion on an actual event doesn't mean said person's opinion is the news.

Booger is an extreme LSU homer and shows it by his comments on Saban and Alabama.

Maria Taylor just provided a textbook example of how to do it right. She remained professional and composed in the moment, laid low and let everybody else froth at the mouth, meanwhile raking in tons of publicity, and then took the high road and graciously extended an olive branch if not an entire tree when she could have fanned the flames for more attention. She handled it like a total pro, and has vaulted way up in my standings.

Coach Saban, having stepped in it, also handled it correctly (quickly, and sincerely). Good lessons to be learned from both examples.

So how did Finebaum react to what she said?

I didn't see or hear it - I don't often listen to his show. Just saw a reference to the SDS article and went from there.

I'm one of the few who has some respect for Finebaum, though I certainly don't agree with everything he thinks, says or does. I listened to his take on the issue on the local Roundtable show and thought it was reasonable - his criticism was mild. I was one of the few here who thought that CNS owed MT an apology from the beginning though I certainly did not agree with the media outrage. It was a violation of civility not a crime - he was rude. My little exposure to Taylor made me think she was not a "shock jock" but a person worthy of being treated with respect and having seen the interview live, I thought her question was valid since a game had now taken place, i.e., it was not the same question. Her tone and manner were respectful, not provocative and the way she phrased the question left him an open door to say anything he wanted. I.e., she didn't try to corner him. Other than the overwrought media reaction I thought the episode was handled as well as it could have been.

Maria realizes Coach Saban is an intense competitor and when things don't please him he can lash out at people in the heat of battle, so I think this is over now since an apology has been made and accepted. Anyone from the media who is still making an issue of this is simply a Saban hater.

Media: "What? Maria, you're not going to be outraged? Not to worry, WE WILL BE OUTRAGED FOR YOU! And thank you for providing us with the cannon fodder." SMH

Classy response.

Got to agree. It's a pity the media whiners didn't check with her before they tried besmirching CNS. Coach Saban and I are from the same generation (from completely different backgrounds), but we were both taught if you mess up, you apologize immediately -- you don't wait to be told. If you do wait you still apologize and your parent will think up some suitable "attitude adjustment" to ensure you will not wait to apologize the next time.

Isn't Cecil Hurt still someone from the media?

When Cecil interviews Saban, I expect Saban is honest with him. I believe Saban always has been honest with him and other reporters. I would not appreciate Saban lying to Cecil because I would feel like I'm the one being lied to.

We've had a rival team's poster point out Saban said he wasn't going to Bama, and obviously lied. That dog won't hunt with me. That argument doesn't hold water. When Saban said he wasn't going to Bama. that was his intention, then he changed his mind.

I make these points to remind people the media performs a valuable service to the public. It can be misused, but so can everything else.

I think Maria Taylor is an excellent reporter. She is very professional in her interactions.

Maybe she needs to replace the Fbaum Show with the Maria Taylor Show. ESPN, are you listening?

Don't really care about the non-event being discussed, but Maria Taylor has absolutely amazing legs.

My problem is that if he had called her before the night was over, why let the story linger? She knew how much outrage there was and she could have stopped it that night. Not impressed here.
Her timing was perfect. Had she said anything sooner, none of the talking heads would have listened because they were too busy attacking someone's character for the sake of ratings. I think Miss Taylor has some new fans here.
