It's funny how people on here want to down this guy. He's done nothing compared to Coach Bryant with the Junction Boys. Bottom line is he got in a couple of players faces when they didn't want to put forth an effort and still wanted alot of playing time. Also, funny how this is just now coming out when KS is having a down year.

The human bowling ball should now look inward towards his personal health and get some currently viable procedure done, to increase his lifespan.

Latest reports are that upon receiving his severance pay, Mangino has holed up in an area fast food establishment and is refusing interviews. ;)

Mangino did a great job at Kansas.

He had a 50-48 record in eight years with 3 bowl wins.

They had only three bowl wins in the previous 103 years.

I hate to see coaches fired - especially coaches who have done a great job with their program - but Mangino is slime and the sport is better off without him. I have heard these stories for years.

That said, Kansas is going to struggle to replace him with someone who will be able to compete with the type of athletes attracted to the program. At Kansas, doing more with less is a must...
Agreed, the guy comes across as a bit of a scumbag. Maybe they will look for a guy like Nolan Cromwell. But that's just a guess.

Yep that's why this is a horrible move.

The problem wasn't what was said by Mangino. The problem was that the AD at Kansas did not like Mangino and was waiting for something like this to come up (when they were losing). If KU would have won 8 or more games this wouldn't be an issue.

Let's be honest - even Bama held on to a head coach longer than we should have because he won. 2005 was good and bad, for that reason (though it certainly worked out for the best).

Mangino was/is a bad man and was a horrible influence on the kids that played for him. With kids this age, it can't all be about wins and losses, can it? :conf3:

There were also players that said Mangino did the right thing and brought out the best in them. If you think ANY college football coach is Mr. Nice Guy to his players you're dead wrong. If you think Mangino is a bad man then almost every coach in the nation is a bad man too.

I take it that you never played college football. These coaches are not doing this to make their players hate them. They are doing to tear them down and build them up.

I read this earlier...."There's no crying in football"

Here is an article from some former players:

Can't find the article I was looking for but it basically had players on Mangino's side. They said that he brought out the best in them and was a good coach. Oh well, we are all entitled to our own opinions.

There's a distinct difference between verbal abuse and coaching. I am a high school coach. You can be tough and be respected. But there are certain lines you just can't cross these days. You may have been able to do this 25-30 years ago but you have to treat players with respect. Coach Saban is among the toughest coaches around, but he treats the game and his players with respect. This guy apparently treated not only his football players, but the rest of the community with nothing but contempt. You just can't do that.

"Don't yes sir me, or I will send you back to St. Louis so you can get shot with your homies,"

What kind of person or coach would say something like this? You want your coach to have character so that he can instill good values in your players. This kind of crap goes completely against that.

LOL I was trying to find the POSITIVE article. Yes these comments are bad but this goes on everywhere!!!!

Do you guys know what coaching tree Mangino came from?????

He came from Coach Snyder's coaching tree which includes the Stoops brothers (OU/AU), Levitt (USF), etc. etc.

Do you think Mangino did this only when he got to Kansas? And do you think that none of these coaches can be just as harsh?

Eh you have to remember coaching is a fraternity and some coaches might have chosen to look the other way. I really don't know. Again there is a difference between teaching which what coaching really is and correcting a player constructively so he will do better, and making comments about a family situation in that manner. That's not the way to motivate anyone.
