QB:
JaMarcus Russell: Has a cannon for an armor and good pocket presence. Tends to throw behind or not put the adequate touch on his passes. Not mobile at all and cannot play with a lead.
Brodie Croyle: what can i say, the kid is good. The only problem i see is if pressured and not given adequate time to plant/set and throw to his recievers, he may throw up some ints.
Edge: Bama
OL:
LSU: LSU has a great OL that give JaMarcus tons of time to throw the ball. Going back and watching tape though, they are not very good at run blocking, therefore look for alot of bounce outs and screens... sigh
Bama: Young OL that has played very well considering this year. Very good at run blocking but has trouble picking up Camo'd blitzes. This could be a weakeness with Bo Pelini's increased blitz calls.
Edge: LSU
RB
LSU: Heralded pre season at 4 deep. The LSU RB corp was hurt with Alley Broussards pre season injury. Joseph Addai, a very capable back with good hands, has shown that he can establish enough of a running game to keep LSU in a ball game. Shyrone Carrey, a skat back, will either break a 10-15 run behind his tall bockers... or be tackled (fall down) at the line of scrimmage... and then there is the 03 NC MVP Justin Vincent... thinks he is a powerback... but he isn't.
Bama: Ken Darby is a good back that seems to run hard every down. He is capable of breaking large chunks if DL try and arm tackle him, but if forced East/West seems to be easily contained. i don't know much about Coffee or Johns.
Edge: Push
WR:
LSU: Once again LSU was heralded pre season to have the nation best stable of WRs, to our dismay speed and athleticism dont necessarily make a great reciever. Skyler Green is electric and add PRs to his resume makes him the most dangerous man on our team. Early Doucet, Buster Davis, and Dwayne Bowe are great recievers with suspect hands. Buster and Dwayne are big reciever that are capable of making great catches, if they can get past the dropsies.
Alabama: With the loss of Prothro (Bama's Reggie Bush) Bama's recievers dont scare me to much. DJ Hall has looked good in the past few weeks, but he is no Prothro.
Edge: LSU
Defense: (ill just go over weakness, b/c god knows we both have stifling Ds)
LSU: Weakness: LB... we have no real threat here, they are more like hybrid safties then snot knocking linebackers. CB are new but Ronnie Prude is making alot of progress. Look for alot of blitzes from LaRon Landry (this kid can lay the wood). Also Jessie Daniels is injured, but will have the weak off to rest up.
Bama: i really dont see a weakness... strong LB core with Roach and Ryan... DL good, but linebackers make up for any inconsistency here. Secondary is good but can be beat if we can sneak a few deep balls.
Edge: Bama
Special Teams
LSU: Skyler Green, and mulit sport kicker Chris Jackson... nuff said
Alabama: Dont really know enough about them, but they seem to be hurt with Prothro not returning kicks... i have heard from other Bama fans that Prothro wasn't blowing anyone socks off at KR so you may not be hurt much here.
Edge: LSU
My prediction: Tough smash mouth game... like the SEC of old
LSU 17
Bama 13
