This is a big boy. Apparently we have offered and are high on his list. The big man has a 27" vertical and they say he moves well even for a man 100lbs lighter than him. Also, they say that he is as strong in the fourth as he is in the 1st quarter.
RTO or Surfer, what kind of info do you guys have on him?

MC, that may well be the understatement of the year!! Holy cow! If he could lose a little of that weight, & pick up some quickness, he could be a terror. Can you imagine the leg strength required to lift that body 27" verticaly?

BamaMag shows Mapp with an offer from Shula. He doesn't fit the mold of any of the OL that Bama has recruited since Shula showed up, so I'm not sure what to think.

Btw, does anybody know if Lionel is related to Scientific Mapp?

I guess he plays tackle and guard at the same time :)

I agree that this doesn't sound like the type of OL CMS has looked at. Maybe as a NG in a 3-3-5.

he tried to commit probably in late October or early November and we turned his commitment down b/c we were "full" on the OL....(which meant Smith and no one else b/c Stadler, Motley, Pharr, and Ross were already on board)

I watched this guy in the state playoffs this year. As a defensive tackle, he's devastating. It would take 2-3 guys to block him (for obvious reasons) and he'd still drive them back.

He looked sluggish at times though, but that could be because he was playing both sides.

I mean I'm really just afraid for this guy's health at this weight, but he certainly could be a much more effective athlete at 320. If he commits and redshirts and gets himself into shape, I tihnk he could most definitely be a great force on any side of the ball.

Does this possibly mean we're losing the battle for Smith?

I don't think there is any interest from either side anymore.

I usually don't question the staffs recruiting because I assume they have more first hand knowledge about a player than I do, but I might question this, If somebody is that big and can move I figure you can find a place for him to contribute. If nothing else put that road grader in on the goal line, run behind him, how would you defense that? As for being full at OL, they were present at the Auburn game right? I'd say we could sign nothing BUT OL and it would be a good class.

What was Scientific's brothers name? The brother played hoops at UVa I think.

No, I would say it means at the time we were banking on eventually getting Smith. I hope that is still the case. Seemed like there were other kids high on Bama back then that decided to look elsewhere as well, Heath Batchelor being one.

All the Bama-related news on this guy was months ago... I don't think he has any bearing on Smith.
