While I'm in favor the general idea of attempting to bunt for a hit, the fact of the matter is that Alex Kubal, who attempts to bunt for a hit far too often, is one awful bunter. Coach Wells should implement a permanent ban on Kubal's bunt attempts. First of all, he fails close to 100% of the time he attempts them, but also his technique is so horrendous that this season he has both lined out to the first baseman on a bunt and bunted the ball over the first baseman's head. That's just plain inexcusable. Kubal is to bunting what Corrine Brown is to oratory.


I don't care what anyone says about Anthony Ranaudo, at this point Austin Hyatt has been the Pitcher of the Year in the SEC.

I agree. Although they do have one decent pitcher on the entire staff - Nick Routt, their freshman Saturday starter. Beyond Routt, though, it's one of the worst pitching staffs I've ever seen in the SEC. Even with Routt, their team ERA is 6.18 (without Routt's contribution, it all the way to 6.84).

With a nine-run lead, Austin Evans replaces Hyatt and, true to form, walks the first batter he faces, then gives up an RBI single.


I shouldn't have been bashing State's pitching in that earlier post. I'd temporarily forgotten about our non-Smith/Kilcrease bullpen.
