I work in Mississippi, so I have a lot of state fans here. I got into a conversation with several of them today about the upcoming season. One very bold fan said that Florida would lose 1 regular season game this year (I actually agree with that). Then he said one of the craziest things I believe I have ever heard. He said it would be to Miss. St., because they never play them good in Starkville and because they have the man that made florida football what it is:biggrin:. He said Florida would not be as good this year with out Mullens. Are you ready, because here comes the crazy part:wink:. All of the other state fans (12 of them) agreed with him.:conf3:

Dan Mullen is no doubt a great coach who did great things at Florida.

But, to my knowledge, MSU did not get Florida's players along with Mullens when they hired him.

It will be an ugly game for the bulldawgs.

A few years ago, ESPN had a commercial which aired the day after the BCS Championship Game.
In the commercial, fans were exultant because "Today, we are all undefeated."
Let an MSU fan live a little. For the next two weeks, MSU and Florida have the same record

My dad was listening to ESPN radio one night a few weeks ago on his way home. He heard Andre Ware say that Florida will not blow out State because Meyer will not show up a former assistant. I honestly don't see that happening. I think State will be able to stay with them for a little while but will not succeed in beating them.

I firmly believe Mississippi State will be 2-10 this year, with no SEC wins. They are going to see first hand what it is like switching to a spread offense with no talent on offense, and very little defense to keep them in games.

I posted in another thread that I have a MSU grad friend (going to the movies with him and wife tonight) who said they just don't have a chance to be competitive - lack of facilities, community, etc. And his dad was the HC and then the principal of Starkville HS...

I didn't agree with you until I looked at State's schedule. I can see them only winning two. If they only win two, Mullens will find it hard to recruit the state (which should actually be easy with his offense, considering pretty much every high school runs a variation of the spread).
Here is State's 2009 schedule:
Sept. 5 JACKSON STATE
Sept. 12 at Auburn
Sept. 19 at Vanderbilt
Sept. 26 LSU
Oct. 3 GEORGIA TECH
Oct. 10 HOUSTON
Oct. 17 at Middle Tennessee
Oct. 24 FLORIDA
Oct. 31 at Kentucky
Nov. 14 ALABAMA
Nov. 21 at Arkansas (Little Rock)
Nov. 28 OLE MISS
I guess they beat Jackson State and Middle Tennessee and possibly Houston.

He has a point about history. Not that history matters at all to the present.

I will say this though, the last 3 times UF has traveled to the state of Mississippi, they've been beaten, and the last two times they've been to Starkville they've been beaten.

With that being said, UF 45, MSU 7. (Only because Meyer would feel bad laying 70 on his friend.)

Houston will put up some points. I don't think state can keep up with them.

Meyer has no friends, he would run up the score on his wife.

Hopefully MSU will give Mullen a chance to recruit a couple of classes to see if Mullen's offense will work. AU and co never gave Franklin a chance. Maybe the spread wouldn't have worked at AU (not much else will either now that CNS has us on track) but they could have given him more of a chance.

That having been said, State won't know what hit them when Florida comes to town.

MSU will be lucky to win 2 games this year. Mullen is a decent QB coach but whether or not he is head coach material is yet to be determined. I suspect Meyer will score more on UT than MSU. Neither game is going to be pretty.

As far as Florida goes you have to have class to be humble all the coaches ive seen to date at Florida has never learned that they would run up the score on anyone but sooner or later its going to get them bit and i bet its sooner than later.

MSU does have a talented backfield with Dixon and Ducree(sp) and a very good defensive backs. If they can find a QB they may can win a few games that you may not expect.
But with that said I say no more than 5 wins.

he's right. what would entice a recruit to choose that town and that campus over any other program?
