Are we at risk of losing any of our recruits? I'm already assuming Dugas and Morgan are gone.

Oh BTW, little blurb from PG about Lefty Matt Taylor who transferred (or got run off by Bunn, whichever you prefer), ranks as the no. 9 draft prospect in Georgia.

9. MATT TAYLOR, lhp, Middle Georgia JC (So.)
Ex-Alabama lefty dominated (67 IP/112 SO) with 88-93 FB, + SL; + competes, excellent feel for pitching.

You can't convince me we couldn't have used him this year. All because, if rumors are to be believed, Bunn tried to change his throwing motion (which would explain why he got rocked in so many appearances also).

So is the word now that Dugas is pretty much gone? I have no idea how much money he wants, but he's not expected to be selected early enough to warrant a huge paycheck. Maybe top 10 rounds. The thing is, he's really not going to benefit, at least from a scouting standpoint, from another year of college because the tools that are holding him back - size, power, lack of elite speed - aren't going to improve. The player he is right now is what he projects to be, which is a polished hitter with outstanding plate discipline possessing gap power and a tick above average speed, and a capable defender in center field. Hopefully he takes the Lance Cormier/Jeremy Brown route by returning for his senior year and improving his draft stock.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the incoming recruits aren't hit very hard by this draft. Gardeck seems the one most likely to sign, but otherwise, there are no other obvious early-round picks like last year with Matt Lipka and Reggie Golden.

I could be wrong but I don't see Dugas going in the top 10. I'm hearing 14-17th round and the teams that like him the most is Baltimore and the Brewers. I look for Adam Morgan's draft stock to fall off the building and for him to sign anyway. Morgan was the main pitcher that was ....ed with the Bunn departure. The million dollar question is, Will any team take a chance on a kid that stands 5'4 with a pretty good change up that has pitched his balls off the Tide?

Everything I've seen have them both going in the top 10 rounds. The reason I assume they're gone is because a JR who comes back takes a big risk when it comes to signing bonuses. They have less bargaining power as SRs because it's pretty much their only option is to sign.

I was thinking Gardeck as well would be gone. Thinking Keller may go mid-to-late teens, but hopefully that won't give him the kind of money to give up college. I don't know about anyone else.

I heard Keller fell off also because Velo dropped. Mid to lower 20s would be my guess. I hope your right on Dugas and Morgan. Any dark horses out there on the team? Rosecran late?

Reaves may have worked his way into getting drafted, but from the way most of the people performed this year, I can't see too many getting drafted.

Rosecrans maybe just due to the potential power he could have, but I wouldn't think he's shown it consistently at the major college level. Then again, I'm no expert at projecting this thing. What I see can be totally different from what a GM, scout can be looking at.

so Morgan was unhappy that Bunn left? and Taylor was run off by Bunn?

I hope Kenny Roberts is here next year. That is, unless we turn him into an ineffective, little-used middle reliever like we did with the last JUCO power hitter we signed.

I do know about both, Morgan liked Bunn and the everyday mechanics work he brought to the table. However, Bunn did try to re-invent Matt Taylor and his delivery and that caused him to get shelled. At Christmas break when Bunn was fired/resigned was when there was rumblings about other pitchers leaving/going Matt Taylor. Matt Taylor was drafted out high school in the last round, last pick 1657 by the Pirates. The scouting director for the Pirates is Jimmy Lester and Jimmy lives in Columbus as did Matt Taylor. Good Luck to Matt today in the draft and heres to him never going to UGA.

Another note, Florida, Arkansa and Vandy got killed last night in the 1st round and sandwich picks with their recruits. It will be interesting to see if they can get those kids to come to school.

Well, regardless, if we're to lose somebody, today is the day we get a little indication of who it will be. Rounds 2-30 today starting at 12 ET

Arkansas just had another guy drafted the 2nd round. That's 3 or 4 already if I remember correctly.

As much as I love signing top 10 national studs and what-not, hopefully we can just load up on guys who might be missing that one great tool but are good college players, and won't be stuck having to start some of the guys that we did this year.

That being said, I feel OK about the offense for 2012 even if we're starting some freshmen that I'm not that familiar with. The pitching staff has me a bit worried.
