New Mexico State has disarmed it's long-time mascot "Pistol Pete," who is modeled after a real old-time western gunfighter who killed the man who murdered his father. Henceforth, he will be known simply as "Pete," and will twirl a lariat on the sidelines...

Now, the lariat/lasso represents centuries of people who have been persecuted and hung. Not enough...

Think PETA will come out against the horse they ride at FSU?

They might but I could honestly see PETA going after the Buffalo in Colorado, the Longhorn at Texas or Mike the Tiger. Those poor poor animals in captivity. By the way...I HATE PETA.

When will the insanity end? It won't.

I think that people have the feeling that all of the PC madness is somehow temporary, and that soon all real Americans will rise up and thwart the destructive ideology, and then we all live happily ever after.........Unfortunatly, this isn't the case.

I'm afraid that political correctness is alive and well and flourishing in America and will tragically continue until the bitter end.

Sad................but true. :frown:

Which is another way of saying: "Make it idiot-proof, and they'll just invent a more efficient idiot."

I'm dead certain that the pointy-headed liberal who came up with this idea is absolutely appalled at the response. He's shocked that his "colleagues" at the member institutions aren't as orgasmic over this idea as he is, and he's probably in a meeting right now, arguing with the NCAA bean counters over whether this is a freakin' disaster or a stroke of liberal genius.

The few who are offended are making the majority of us who are not offended miserable. What happened to The Majority Rules?

aren't the finals of the college world series held in Omaha?

from the omaha visitor's site:
"'Omaha,' according to Indian legend, literally means 'above all others upon a stream.'"

will the city have to be renamed or will the ncaa move the competition to another site? after all, isn't it offensive to play a white man's game on sacred land stolen from natives?

perhaps they can hold the ncaa lacrosse finals there as a tribute to the natives who invented the game. but then there's another problem in that the only people who compete in the lacrosse finals are rich white kids who go to lily-white ivy league schools that most likely have only token numbers of natives enrolled.

this is just a perfect example of stupid bureaucrats at the ncaa taking a purely PC stance without giving any thought to the far-reaching implications and unintended consequences of their actions.

Rather than pointy-headed liberals making PC decisions,

I see the NCAA as an organization not unlike the typical "Condo-owners Association". Certain otherwise unfulfilled and unsuccessful mental midgets finally have achieved some kind of power base, and they have gone a little strange. They meet in secret and issue decrees that reek of short sightedness and lack of research (or common sense).

The Dumbing down of America

Taking away Pete's Pistol will stop crime in its tracks?

With Pete without Pistol it is apparent the entire so called educated leaders are in the process of dumbing down America. Many so called educators are doing their best to re-write history or remove it altogether. The west was won by the Colt and other type pistols. It is truly sad. As a child I played Army and we had our share of Toy Rifles and hand guns. We as children knew what a real gun could do and knew not to play or even look at a weapon. You always have one or two knotheads who's parents sucked at teaching. So called educated members of society are telling you and I as Adults we can not teach our children the difference in right from wrong. I am getting so tired of these jackasses telling the American public we need their help in making up our minds as how the world needs more Political Correctness. If you think for one second banning a mascot with a toy pistol will somehow slow down crime then you need to be committed for helping to dumb down the American people.

We had better enjoy what is left of college football while we can. It won't be long till keeping score won't be allowed either. I'm not sure how that will work, but I can see it coming down the pike. Maybe the team with the best manners will win the game on points, like the olympics.

Like youth soccer in many areas, score is not allowed to be kept, regardless of the parents and kids keeping up with the score.

Too many people are looking for some utopia that does not and can not exist.

They need to play some football, get hit and hit back and be good as you are doing it. Roll DAMN Tide!
