Those in the know, was this a surprise?Javion Cohen is entering the transfer portal. I guess this week we will have several others. I thought he’d stay at Bama though.
I'm not in the know, but I'm surprised. Two year starters typically aren't the types who transfer out from bama. Maybe he's looking at a grad program or something like that to prep for life after football...Those in the know, was this a surprise?
Me too unless Tyler Booker took his spot. Maybe he didn’t want to change positions. We still need depth and he has experience as a starter. I wish him luck though. Guess he won’t play in the bowl game.I thought he was in line to start next season (?).
He started all last year and most of this one. Even if Booker was grabbing a spot, the other guard in spot was open since ekiyor is graduating. Perplexing...I thought he was in line to start next season (?).
Depends on a kid’s support system (i.e. parents, HS coaches, etc.) if they don’t have some wisdom surrounding them then yeah, it can do harmmost of us would freak if someone dropped 100k on us. 18 year old me, God only knows what it would have done to me.
Like you said believe there will be plenty moreJavion Cohen is entering the transfer portal. I guess this week we will have several others. I thought he’d stay at Bama though.
He probably looked at around and felt he wouldn’t be able to win the other guard spot or not wasnt confident he could so he dipped out.He started all least year and most of this one. Even if Booker was grabbing a spot, the other guard in spot was open since ekiyor is graduating. Perplexing...
Supposedly he held 35 scholarship offers coming out of HS. I think he held more holding penalties than that though. He started all least year and most of this one. Even if Booker was grabbing a spot, the other guard in spot was open since ekiyor is graduating. Perplexing...
He thanked Alabama for their player support when he was dealing with some mental issues this past summer. Sometimes you do all you can and it isn’t enough. Hope he finds a spot that helps him.Depends on a kid’s support system (i.e. parents, HS coaches, etc.) if they don’t have some wisdom surrounding them then yeah, it can do harm
Given his mental struggle in the off season, he might just need a break from the high pressures that come along with playing for AlabamaHe probably looked at around and felt he wouldn’t be able to win the other guard spot or not wasnt confident he could so he dipped out.
Some are easy to figure out. This one isn`t. Maybe personal issues? He started all least year and most of this one. Even if Booker was grabbing a spot, the other guard in spot was open since ekiyor is graduating. Perplexing...
" Becoming a business as opposed to a game ." ? I personally think we`re already there. I hate to say it and regret having to do so, but I personally don`t feel the same emotional tie to college football that I did just a few short years ago. I can`t remember the last NFL game I watched. Probably the year the Saints won the Super Bowl.I told a good friend that kids hitting the portal aka free agency is becoming the new norm. Some programs are already starting to make the portal a major part of their recruiting classes. Throw in NIL deals and you are basically turning college football into NFL junior. I would not be surprised in a few years if they figure out a way to let teams start trading players. To heck with the classes, you aren't here to go to school son you are here to play football. It's quickly becoming a business as opposed to a game. I'm just waiting for the day when a group of students at a place like Harvard start trying to file lawsuits over these NIL deals. The words social injustice are already thrown around enough these days. And I could see that being a major point in their lawsuit. Something to the tune of how is it fair that Billy gets a 2 million dollar NIL deal just because he's an athlete and plays football and Tom is filing a lawsuit claiming injustice because he is JUST a student.
