Nick Saban Retiring? It's Official .. the Goat is gone

I was stoked.
I knew he would get 1 NC.
17 years and 6 NC later ... just wow.

I raise my glass and give a toast to the GOAT.
Thank you for the memories.
No matter what happens in the future, these past 17 years can never be taken away.

Many wondered if the NIL and transfer portal would push Saban into retirement. Apparently it did. The article explicitly expresses Saban had grown tired of both.

I get that. I’d like to think age played a big factor. I don’t enjoy working 14 hour days and I’m 47. I can’t imagine what’s that like for a 72 year old. If NIL happened 10 years ago, I don’t think Saban retires because of it. Just my .02.

I knew this day would obviously come but man am I in shock. I had convinced myself that he would coach at least 3-5 more years and that no way in the world would he leave without winning it all again.

It seems so surreal right now. Life clearly goes on because in the end this is just a game and something to enjoy watching but man am I going to miss seeing him on the sidelines and watching Bama always compete for the national championships. I realize I might be over reacting but we just lost the greatest college football coach, and maybe the greatest football coach of all time.

I will miss him but never forget the amazing last 16 years I saw.

Not only will Coach Saban be gone but all the people around the program could be as well. The man who holds the cup of water behind Coach at the games and what about Jeff Allen? It is going to be a major change without these people we see every Saturday.

So sad if true. I would respect Saban even more if he gave up something he loved so much... for his first love.

It is obvious that he loves the hell out of her. I hope they have a long and awesome retirement together and enjoy the grandkids.

I have read from several people Ms Terry has a health issue. I think Terrion Arnold alluded to it ("Go take care of yourself and especially Ms Terry) and Saban in his statement said he was retiring due to his age and health issues in the family.

Apparently (from a supposed insider) a few people knew over the past few months, but not many, and they didn't know when he would actually retire. I sure hope the rumor about Ms Terry isn't true. I won't say what the rumor is but I have read it in several places. I hope they get to spend many more years together enjoying life together with good health.

I got to say, I am excited to see what DeBoer can do with Alabama. Since 2020 Alabama Football has almost seemed about getting one more championship for Coach before Father Time caught up. Not exactly desperate, but kinda. But Saban will always be The Coach to me. I basically grew up my entire teenage & adult life until now with him at the helm. I don’t think any other coach will ever have that same place to me no matter what kind of success they have. Still doesn’t really feel real. Thanks for all the memories, Nick Saban!

I just don't like it when places do the "something" field at...

I know I may be the loan fan to think this but, drop Denny, he has the chimes. Saban-Bryant Stadium.

I know, I know. There would be way too much push back against that so, just suck it up and make it...

No it doesn't roll off the tongue very well but, who cares. We'd all get used to it after a couple years. I'm sure when the name was changed from Denny Stadium to BDS, it sounded and felt weird to people.

Just don't do the field @ stadium thing. It's silly and nobody refers to the field part much. Just look at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. I never hear it referred to as Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, whether it is by TV personalities, online/print media or fans.
