My thoughts if I was suiting up would be where can I get the most PT because the guys with talent that make it this far have daydreams of making it to the League. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how clogged we are at certain spots and where we are thin at others. It also doesn't take a rocket scientist to read the recruiting boards as a player to see who the coaches are trying to recruit and how certain new recruits may impact future playing time. WR is one of those spots that has a logjam and maybe a future logjam. RB seems to be that way as well with Grant, Coffee, and now Upchurch being the go-to backs. That's why I could see a move like this for Nikita, not that he isn't a really good WR. It also makes me scratch my head why JJ isn't salivating to move to LB because he is the perfect size to play Inside, but that horse has been beaten already.

Having a db that can catch wouldn't be too bad. I say we move all our receivers to defense. Maybe play a little ironman ball. Put DJ at corner, Caddell at nickelback, and Keith Brown at OLB. Ezekial Knight's success thus far has changed everything.

Is it even possible, scheme-wise, to move a player from O to D in the middle of the season? Seems like it would be mental breakdown after mental breakdown on the field. Lots of scores where the opponent has no one within 20 yard of him sort of thing.
It will be a process to get reps at best, I would assume. He may play in situational roles but wont be a contributor unless he is the smartest human on Earth. However, if the move is permanent it will be great for him to get the experience now, plus bowl practices will help.
With the complexity of this Defense, there would be no way in Hades he would see any action this season unless he was, like you said, the smartest human on the planet. This is a move that would have to take place in the Spring but if he was making a switch to Safety now, it would definately give him a big headstart for next year.
Possible, yes. Optimal, no.
JJ and Stover are both exceptional athletes.
I'm sure they've both played defense at some point in their lives. It wouldn't be completely foreign to them. You obviously couldn't put them in for an extended number of plays right away; but they could definitely add some talent to our (lack of) depth.
Coach Bryant once put Joe Namath in at cornerback during a game against MSU. Sometimes, you've just gotta put your best guys out there and let them "make" plays.

I agree, I think it is more of a head start for next year. And by reps, I meant in practice.
If WR gets thin, it wont be a hard move at all. He could still be a situational receiver if need be.
There are many, many, DB's that once played WR but joined the dark side because they mainly couldn't catch a cold.
