Remember when there was a threat of cancellation of an entire season 3 years ago? In retrospect, that was a lot less stressful than this

Here are a few other options. I'm posting Walmart inks because most everyone has a Walmart near them and these should be in stock:

Inexpensive Roku 4K ($40): Roku Express 4K+ | Streaming Player HD/4K/HDR with Roku Voice Remote with TV Controls - Walmart.com

For $80, you can get the cheapest Apple TV (HD only, no 4K). I think the Apple TV is the best streaming device, that's why I recommend it. Apple TV HD 32GB (2nd Generation) - Walmart.com

There are some cheaper off brand options, like Onn, but I honestly try to avoid these off-brand things because they rarely work as good as the Rokus, Fire TVs or Apple TVs.

This is common for channels and providers. Most likely the contract has been up for weeks or months but they were "negotiating in good faith." It is too bad that talks broke down right before games really kicked off. The channels will claim that they only was $1 per subscriber more. That equals millions.

Also, they sort of pulled the same thing when thy wanted providers to pick up ESPNU. They waited until the last second to place a primetime game on the channel to force providers to pick it up.

DTV is doing the same. Switch to YoutubeTV or at least get a 7 day free trial and you can watch all. the games this weekend. BTW, it is wonderful -- they have a multi-view option where you can watch 4 games at once...pretty good for CFB addicts like myself.
I have Direct Stream, but I got the Utah/Florida game last night and was also able to watch the SEC Channel last night to check out Mizzu.

Yes, this has been common since the beginning of cable. What is not common, and changing, is the networks are asking for higher than the normal rate increases and cable providers are trying to get tougher. This is why Bally disappeared from almost all streaming service and Dish Network. There are fewer eyeballs these days so the networks need even more per subscriber to make up for the downfall.

Fubo was going to charge me $90 today! Maybe I pressed the wrong button....lol....

Anyway.....got YT TV and so far I'm good......
not sure why it wanted to charge you.I googled and it said 7 day free trial. Honestly I don't like Fubo. I will cancel once baseball season ends and switch over to youtubetv or hulu.

Why do these contracts always renew in the fall? Football as a bargaining chip has to be the answer.

I believe you are correct. It is no coincidence that it happens this weekend.

Some would call it "Leverage" :)

If it's such a problem how did other providers work this out with Disney? Why is Spectrum the one that is hamstrung and hogtied on this deal?

It's not just Spectrum, it's just Spectrum right now because their contract is up for renewal. It happens to all of them depending on when the contracts are renewed (I think it is a 3-5 year cycle but, am not sure). I think Disney had a fight with YouTube TV last year or the year before. It's one reason why YTTV's price shot up over the last several years. It used to only be $35 a month and is now $72.

I’ve used Sling TV the last several years. Base package is $40.00 plus tax. If you want SEC Network and all sports channels it’s an additional $10. Total with tax is $55. Can cancel anytime ya want. I’ve also used YouTube TV and it works great as well just slightly more expensive. Good luck!

To be honest, it kind of makes you miss the good ol' days of the 70's and early 80's when your choices were 3 Major Network Broadcast Affiliates or an AM sports radio station during the day and if you were lucky an FM broadcast in the evenings. Followed up by a trip to the closest store, on Sunday morning, that had a Birmingham News paper box to get the quality write-ups and stats for your team's game the previous day......... :geek:

I've got Direct TV, but I have that Hulu/ESPN/Disney+ bundle too, I think I'm ok for the season. If not, I'll figure out a work around.

Listened to the Press Box this morning with Mike Grace....he said he was watching pregame, turned to Florida-Utah and got that Spectrum message. The fact that they cut it right before kickoff.....that's just a kick in the face.
ESPN + on The hulu disney package does not carry the regular ESPN stations, you will need hulu live or YouTube TV etc.

ESPN has been doing this for years, but as cable, dish, etc is becoming obsolete, they do not have the customer base to pay the higher fees. If they they raise their rates (which part of the reason everyone is leaving cable/dish) they will just lose more customers. Cable/dish is an untenable business model.

ESPN has all the leverage, and they use it. Not a fan of ESPN, but they got what we want, so we have to pay if we want to watch college football. I left dish/DTV a few years ago. I get YouTube TV for five months during college football. I cancel in Jan. No I cannot watch basketball, baseball, etc. but I have not missed it. I have three or four streaming services and I still save money.

Fubo is going to charge you from Day 1.

I just subscribed to You Tube TV and am enjoying a 2 month FREE trial. I already had a Google account so signup was fairly easy.

You will also need a streaming device to get this.

Watching SECN's "This Morning" right now......
Probably going to do this later today. 2 months will get me half way through the season. Thanks Bazza
