Re: The Opening

I believe I saw a tweet Tuesday saying that he decided against announcing at the opening. Could be wrong, however.

Re: The Opening

Forgive my lack of knowledge on this but what is The Opening?

The Opening is a competition of top high school recruits from around the country. There are individual competitions (agility drill competitions) and team competitons (e.g. 7 on 7 competitions).

These players also get some one on one time to fine tune their individual skills with big name coaches and former players such as Jerry Rice. It's sponsored by Nike. The commentators talk about the players, where they're from, what skills they bring, stuff that college coaches have told them about these players (obviously, no college coaches are named because that would be an NCAA violation), etc. It's pretty interesting.

I watched it last year, especially the 7 on 7 competition and that's where Landon Collins blew me away. Maybe the most athletic and gifted safety I'd seen coming out of HS in a LONG, LONG time. I remember thinking, "Man, it sure would be sweet to land that kid".

Man that pumps me up. I can't wait to see Landon in crimson. At a minimum, he's gonna be a demon on special teams.

Re: The Opening

McNeill is expected to announce while at the Opening, correct? Who else?

He moved his announcement to August. Alot of rumors floating around about some classroom issues. My understanding from what I have been able to gather is that McNeil is lacking some core classes he needs to qualify. He is taking a full load this summer to catch up it appears. I think both UA and UGA have backed off to see how the summer goes before either one will take a commitment from him. Which would go along with him now announcing in August.FWIW

Re: The Opening

OJ Howard

Mitch Sherman:
Alabamacommit O.J. Howard, the nation's No. 2-ranked TE, has entered the registrationroom. Bama fans, we'll sit him down for a chat soon. Submit your questions.

[Comment From Bama Fan Bama Fan : ]
OJ, howlong do you think it will take recruiting guru's to realize you are the top TEin the nation/

Corey Long:
Howard:"If I can stand out this week everybody will know that I'm no. 1 but Iwill have to put on a good show."

[Comment From Bama Fan Bama Fan : ]
OJ, greathaving you as part of the Bama Nation, What are you looking forward to mostabout playing for the best
program in the nation?

Corey Long:
Howard:One of the biggest things is the tradition and of course Coach Saban, the bestcoach in the nation. Every day in practice you will go up against the best andthat's going to make me the best. I want to leave Alabama with people saying Iwas one of the best to come through."

[Comment From Tom Tom : ]
For OJ...Are you the leader of the Bama class? Who do you look to recruit at theopening?

Corey Long:
Howard:"I'm not trying to get anyone else, I'm trying to keep Reuben Foster. Heis one of my close friends and I'll be talking to him and make sure he stays at'Bama. That's my only concern right now. He's a game changer no doubt."

[Comment From Erick Erick : ]
OJ:Alabama was known for some creative use of the TE over the past few years withformer coordinator McElwain. What has the new OC, Nussmeier said about hisstrategy for your position and how he plans to utilize your skill set?

Alvin Kamara:
They aretelling me that they like me a lot and they want to get my up on campus tovisit with coach Kelly and coach Campbell the running backs coach. I willprobably take an official visit when I find out a date.

[Comment From brent brent : ]
what nflrunning back do you think reminds you most of your game?

I would say LeSean McCoy, because hehas both speed and he can be a threat up the middle.

Alvin Kamara:
OK, last question for Alvin.

[CommentFrom Jeremy Jeremy : ]
Is your pact with Rueben Foster,Shaq Wiggins, and Tray Matthews true?

Alvin Kamara:

Re: The Opening

Maurice Smith

Mason Kelley:
Alabama commit Maurice Smith hasarrived here at the hotel

[Comment From The Tide Keeps Rollin The Tide Keeps Rollin : ]
Maurice are you still 100% solid toBama and what stood out about the Tide to you more than any other school?

Damon Sayles:
Smith: "It's Roll Tide untilthe end. Really, it was just getting 1-on-1 time with Nick Saban. He gave me alot of techniques and tools to work with to help my game. I couldn't go wrongwith it."

[Comment From Levi Levi : ]
Smith, have you improved yourBackpedal Quickness? Scouts say it is a weakness of yours.

Maurice Smith:
I heard it, but the only thing theytold me when I went to Alabama was to move my arms quicker. They want me tomove them like a running back. There's always something I can improve on, so Iwon't complain.

[Comment From zach zach : ]
hi maurice what can we expect to seeat alabama in the future

Maurice Smith:
A person with great characterwilling to put his team before himself. I'm a hard-working, Christian athlete.

[Comment From Roll Tide Roll Roll Tide Roll : ]
What are your strengths as a covercorner?

Maurice Smith:
Just being physical at the line. Myspeed is good, too. If I ever get beat off the line, I have good makeup speed

[Comment From Bama Guy Bama Guy : ]
Do you plan on being an earlyenrollee at Bama?

Maurice Smith:
I've talked it over with the family.Just being home and working on things before I get there is important. I don'tknow.

[Comment From Graham Graham : ]
Maurice Smith I love your hair...What is yourinspiration for it (or back story)

Maurice Smith:

I cut itoff. LOL ... really just looking back at old-school photos, it gave me acreative way of thinking with my hair. I felt like I should bring backsomething different, rather than being like someone else. I may grow it back.

Mason Kelley:
'Bama hasn't looked at me

[Comment From Bradley Bradley : ]
which ofguys you've seen looks the least like a HS kid (as in more like an NFL playeror someone genetically engineered)?

Damon Sayles:
DerrickGreen looks like a man. He's huge.

Corey Long:
DerrickHenry looks pretty advanced.

Re: The Opening

I never understand why they lump Shaq Wiggins in that lil group. He is a 3 star on rivals and he may be good but not that great. Even Matthews isnt worth all the hype. He didnt even get a invite to the 5star challenge. Just dont get it. The only school that they all could probably go to is Auburn. They all cant come to Bama.
