Link: Notes on "The Opening" Event

Re: The Opening

I never understand why they lump Shaq Wiggins in that lil group. He is a 3 star on rivals and he may be good but not that great. Even Matthews isnt worth all the hype. He didnt even get a invite to the 5star challenge. Just dont get it. The only school that they all could probably go to is Auburn. They all cant come to Bama.

These kids need to grow up and realize they can't take their friends with them wherever they go. To reach their own full potentials, they probably won't be able to go to school together.

Re: The Opening

Howard ran a 4.4 40 just proving he is fast enough to be a WR RTR

6'6" 230, and runs a 4.4 40? I say we need to put him at wideout. Too bad we wont have him this year, put him in the slot and see if honeybadger can handle that.

Re: The Opening

Howard has quickly become my favorite commit in this class. I honestly think you can't go wrong with putting him at TE or WR. He has all the tools to be a nightmare at both positions.

Re: The Opening

More importantly you can line him up anywhere(including the backfield) and have it be believable. The same is true for shifts and motion. The D will have to account for every look even if all three are used as decoys on the same play.

True, he would be a good pass catching tight end, and a massive mismatch on most LBs in the passing game. I just think we have enough really good traditional TEs on the roster to run block and catch the occasional pass. With his physical abilities he could be a 1500 yard receiver.

Kind of reminds me of Aaron Hernandez in that sense, although it appears that OJ is taller and has the ability to get bigger than him. If he can even equal the matchup problems and production that Hernandez created I will be quite happy.

Re: The Opening

Henry is a freak. Could probably be an SEC starter at 5-6 positions. Seems like a dream H-back, running, blocking, and receiving.

Re: The Opening

few thing foster said that he's 100% bama, also done for the week. He also said that alabama is looking @ tray mathews!!!!! Altee ran a 4.42 40, 3.97 shuttle, jumps 36.9, and a powerball throw of 45 feet. Was quoted as saying he’d like to play in the same backfield with Henry. O.J also 100% to bam a and actively recruiting for us. lastly, Ray rice and other nfl players really like altee and a lot of people are saying he reminds them of trent. RTR guys. And the times are laser timed but i do agree that it seems absurd the times some of these guys are running but we will all find out @ the nil combine in 3 to 5 years.

Re: The Opening

The times are legit. They did this in 20 sites and most of the on-site 40 winners had about a 4.51. All those 4.5 guys are the speedsters who have 4.4 listed on their scout profile. A small group of players, literally about 30 out of thousands ran under a 4.5.

If you watched the ESPNU show what you saw was the best (top 10 or so) of the best (top 150 Sparq). Only 3 guys broke 4.4, out of thousands of athletes and almost all of the top ranked players in the nation.

Also, some of the legit 4.45 and under guys are lowly recruited 5'6 DBs who are track stars. A great example is Hakeem Deggs who is 150 pounds soaking wet And did not finish in the top 1,000 in upper body strength. I do not expect SEC offers.

To compare, Altee with his 7th nationally 4.42 40 is 12th nationally in the power ball toss (bench press replacement).

Upon further review, OJ gets the freak of the week award.

#2 nationally in upper body strength and explosiveness, so good luck jamming him at the line. Also relates well to blocking.

At 6'5.5 and 220 pounds he is one of 2 players 220 pounds of heavier to run a sub 4.5 40. Of the more than 350 players tested who were 6'4 or taller, OJ is the only one to run under 4.65.

At 6'5.5 and with a 34 inch vertical, his hands can cover some serious ground. With an average wingspan you have to figure he can go 11 feet up to get a ball.
