Yes, but his defenses HAD to stop those teams on the last play or we lose. Many of us will lean on the idea that the other team should not have scored enough in the first place to be in a position to win on the last play.
While it is true the other team shouldn't have scored as much in the first place, the same can be said if the offense had done their part in most of our close games/losses. If so, we'd be undefeated and probably seeded #1 or #2 in the CFP.

There is such disdain for PG that folks don't realize our offense under BOB is scoring a TD less in the last two years than we did in the previous 2-3 years.

I know you can go back to CJP years and the defense gave up less points, but since 2018 we've averaged allowing right at 20 points a game and yet the thing that has changed the most is we are scoring about 7 points less per game on offense.

All things equal, had we averaged 45-48 points a game as we did before BOB, we aren't on the outside of the CFP right now.

We'd still be questioning PG as the right DC, but we'd be in our customary spot in early January.

One thing to consider: where did that money come from?

CJP wasn't likely using his own personal money. So it either came from boosters or from Phats (Athletic Department). Since the money could be traced if it came from the AD, then it had to be booster money.

CJP ain't innocent, but he was just a cog in the machine that was already there...

I agree!

Despite the refs in the orange game, if we could have just made that last first down, we would have been undefeated going into Baton Rouge...

Can anyone confirm or deny that Pruitt was on campus in Tuscaloosa recently? I read this somewhere and thought it was interesting to say the least. I apologize if this is outside of the rumor rule. If so, please delete.

Statistically his numbers were pretty dang good…he held all but one SEC opponent below there scoring average…had the 4th hardest schedule yet maintained top 10, and in a lot of cases top 5 defensive statistics nationally. The quote I read had something to do with him being much more revered in the coaching culture than in that of Bama fans.
CNS and the rest of the coaching world vs what I think? Hmmmm…🤣
Edit: He is a Broyles Award Finalist. That’s amongst all coordinators on both sides of the ball in all of the FBS.I know that was mentioned earlier, but it’s pretty relevant here…
Defensive rankings from NCAA.com for 2022

Total D - 15
Rushing D - 31
Passing yards allowed - 16
Opponents first downs - 31
Red zone D - 18
Scoring D - 9

Top 5 in zero categories. Top 10 in 1.

Prior to Gol*ing in 2018, bama rated outside of the top10 in scoring D ONCE, Sabans first year, and after that until Gol*ing the worst were were was 7th and were in the TOP THREE all but 3 years. Since Gol*ing scoring D was 12, 13, 13, 20 and now maybe we end at 9.

for Total defense, prior to Gol*ing 2 times outside of TOP FIVE one was Sabans first year, then #12 in 2014. Since Gol*ing in 2018, we were 16, 20, 32, 9 and now 15. Seriously - TOP FIVE defenses every but one year till Gol*ing and now we are averaging being 18th.

EVERY team defensive stat is that way - doing great, averaging top 5 or better defenses until 2018 and we are way outside of the top10. It's as clear as day looking at any of the ratings...

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Basically he said it's more of how many will leave and he said same thing what everyone was saying about Goandng and BoB and just to wait and see cuz Saban is focused on recuiting.
We also have to remember employment contracts, specifically BOB's. He is under contract through January 23, and until told otherwise, he is employed by the University of Alabama and PAID by the U of A. So, as long as that is in place, he is expected to do his job which is recruiting and any other thing Saban wants him to do. If he were to not do those things, because he knows he is leaving after the 23rd, that would be a breach of contract and grounds for termination without any recourse on his part. This is being handled in a "business manner".

Petey Pie, on the other hand, I'm not so confident about...

This makes me think of the saying that you never want to owe a little money to the mob.

(The insinuation being that it is better to owe nothing, or to owe so much that they have a vested interest in keeping you alive.)
There's a similar saying in banking circles:

"If you owe the bank $10,000 and you can't pay, you have a problem. If you owe the bank $10,000,000 and you can't pay, the bank has a problem."

I know recruits come to play at Bama mainly because of Coach Saban, but if there are going to be a lot of coaching changes after signing day/bowl game, I wonder what the players who just signed will think or do. They do have close relationships with some of the assistant coaches. I imagine during recruiting, the coaches did not give any hints about the possibility of leaving (except Charles Kelly since it made it to the social media). It will be interesting to see what happens. RTR

They can enter the damned TP after spring practice. Look for that window to be the escape for the disgruntled and/or those who don't want to compete.

The players do build relationships with the coaches who recruit them. But ultimately it's about Coach Saban and Alabama's tradition. Position coaches/recruiters do not trump that.

People who defend the performance of the defense under Golding sure don't seem to be applying logic they apply to offensive performance or the team in general.

#1 defense becomes roughly the #10 defense? That's fine.
#1 team becomes the #10 team? That's terrible

It's just not logical...

This year Alabama is ranked #5 and we all understand that's a bad performance. Yet, we'd all be happy if Alabama's defense was ranked that high. The defense's average rank (scoring defense) from 2008-2017 was something like #2.

So why is he a Broyles Finalist then?
FTR…I started this saying I’d like a new DC…
I read an article that had all of the new age analytical stuff that lead to him being a finalist…I was pretty surprised.

An interesting comparison would be Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss. When something came out about restrictions hiring him, an automatic suspension of him would have only applied if he was a head coach and not a coordinator.

In the case of Pruitt, I don't see any penalty of any sort that would be applied if he was an analyst. He wouldn't be recruiting or around players, and I've never heard of any NCAA penalty applying to someone in that position. Furthermore though, with the way the NCAA handled Freeze, it's been two years and it's fairly logical that what ever penalty is applied would apply in large part to his role as a head coach.

Like the Freeze situation, it's entirely possible that Alabama be disallowed from hiring entirely on the basis of bad optics, and then another SEC school will snatch him up at a later date because apparently that will be ok.
After seeing Sean Miller (former Arizona bball coach) literally get off scot free after paying players it is clear that the NCAA is done going after schools and shutting off the tap for the golden eggs. They are hanging on for dear life for any rope associated with FBS football. They know they can be dropped like a bad habit and probably will be sooner or later. If I were to hire CJP what the NCAA thought of it wouldn’t be the reason for me to give it pause.
