Offense out of sync ....

SIAP, but I haven't read all 14 pages of the thread. Could the offense be out of sync because a key contributor in the upcoming game has been getting an inordinate amount of reps for a suspended player not playing?

I think many of you are too quickly throwing Kiffin under the bus. Start exclusively watching the O-Line play. Really go back and watch 2013-now. You won't see Pendy/Stoutland quality blocking. Really think about how many times Yeldon, Drake, and Henry get hit or touched right as they receive the handoff. The between the tackles blocking has been putrid. Our 'Body Blow' runs are 1-3 yards at best. They *should* be around 4-6 yards when you consider the talent. This year guys are just flat missing blocks and looking confused.

Winner. It starts up front. RBs should not be getting hit in our backfield, and they are getting hit in our backfield. Too many first down plays are going for short or even negative yardage. This gets us behind the chains where we have to throw. That is the absolute worst position for us to put Jake Coker in... when the defense knows he is going to throw.

If you are talking about Bo then we can only hope, but I don't think that explains the OM loss.

Not throwing cold water on Bo, but unless he's a play maker like Amari Cooper it's not that simple.

You never know... Bo can help move chains... He could be at WR one play and next play at RB... then next play blocking for Henry...

IF he's the answer I'll be glad to see it, but realistically, it's like making Jeremy Johnson a Heisman candidate to say that a player who has never taken a snap for Bama can totally fix our offensive woes.

I haven't noticed, but are the D's we are playing selling out on the run and that is why they are in our backfield often or is the OL just that bad?. I want to think the D's are selling out to stop the run case we aren't successful with our down field passing game. Just asking folks smarter than me. Thanks.

We are averaging over 200 yds a game rushing and our only below average game was the last one against an inferior foe who we did not get up for. The "sky is falling" crowd is skewing the offensive success we have had up until this past game. I fully expect a very balanced offensive game plan that will have similar stats we had against Whisky and OM and a "W".

I feel Henry would benefit greatly from proper play calling. He's so big toss sweeps, options, pitch-outs etc would help him get that big frame moving before he gets the ball.. I honestly think if we ran toss sweep every play he'd get 4 or more yards.. Thats what we need to do ,find something to break georgias will, that they CANNOT stop.. On the other side of the field we have to play EVERY down fundamentally sound and get pressure, and most of all NOT give up!

I called him a key contributor because I believe he will be, but that is not my point. I am asking if the offense is out of sync because he is getting reps that would normally go to someone playing and their play has been effected.

I can't imagine that the staff would give reps to a player who they know won't be on the field.

It is a matter of record that he has been practicing. I believe when we see him it will appear he has been practicing with the 1's. And not just this week.

Not to derail the thread but it's been mentioned more than once by credible, informed posters that Blake Barnett has been getting reps with the #1s in practice....this was reported after the season started.

Go figure?

They are not "selling out" on downs that present either run or pass situations in the normal sense, but you have seen a lot more man defense this year than you saw last year. They are keeping the safeties closer to the LOS than you saw during the AJ years, but not sending them up in run support at the snap except on obvious run downs.

So, to date, the answer is "kinda". Defenses do not respect your passing game and are willing to take chances in man defenses, hoping not to get burned on a long pass while trying to limit the short and intermediate stuff. But they are not totally selling out in run defense. Logic says that you beat this kind of defensive alignment over the top, but Coker has not been able to hit that pass all season. He almost connected with Stewart in the last game, but underthrew the pass just enough to allow the defender to get back in the play and knock the ball out of his hands before he could complete the catch.

As far as the opponent's game plans against us goes, teams are going to try to make us beat them with our passing game. They'll generally do their best to take away the running option, knowing we're weaker in the QB/WR positions than at RB. Two options then exist on offense. One, beat them with the passing game. Two, ram the ball down their throat even if they're trying to stop the run (the way LSU did to AU a few weeks ago).

We don't really have a Fournette...

I would be fine with putting 6 or 7 OL on the field if need be. We have the running backs to just run the ball. We can go hurry up (just get to the LOS, not snap the ball right away) to prevent any defense from substituting when we're in the heavy set. What defense is stopping that?

I'd argue at this point, it's LSU's O-line we don't have rather than Fournette. Not taking anything away from Fournette, but I'm not seeing multiple players hit him in the backfield as soon as he has the ball in hands like our backs are at times.
I've watched a couple of their games and I have seen their OL break down. It doesn't seem to bother him much...

I agree, his burst for his size (any size really) is just unreal. A lot of people are comparing him to Bo and Hershel. IMO People tend to do that a little too easily. However, I think the comparisons this time are apt. He is big, strong, fast AND quick.

That said, I think we have the horses and the OL) to make the strategy work. I think we have been playing around with the passing game trying to get our QB's comfortable. if we pound them and get Henry lathered up we can have success, maybe not at the level LSU did to AU, but enough to win a game.
