This was about as good an effort from the big four (Steele, Davidson, Hendrix, and Gee) that one could ask for. These four players combined for 68 of our 72 points, were 26-41 from the field, and shot 5-8 from beyond the arc. I think we can expect them to be a huge constant from game to game as far as scoring goes.
The bad news is that our bench, while getting quite a few minutes, didn't perform very well, especially offensively. Taking away the four above players, the rest of the team was 0-10 from the field, with the only points coming on four free throws courtesy of Brandon Hollinger and Demetrius Jemison. As bad as this seems, it excites me even more. If we can beat a team like Iowa with this lack of bench production, imagine what we could do with even a small contribution. If Riley, Hollinger, Jemison, and Torrance can knock down a few shots each game (which they can definitely do), then we will be an absolutely scary team.
I've never been as excited about an Alabama basketball team as I am about this one. Should be a GREAT season!
