The safety was to change the field position. Too many things can go wrong (block, good return, etc...) and AU gets good field position but you get a free kick from the 20 and change the field position which ends up winning the game.

It is not rocket science folks...reminds me of when Coach Bryant used to quick kick...you younger whippersnappers would not remember that.

Agreed. The things that could go wrong with punting out of the endzone far outweigh the things that can go wrong with a free kick at the 20.
