Official MSU post game thread. (post all comments here)

Or Mike Johnson, or David Ross, or Stabler or Davis... I don't care who - at some point the coach has to say "Hey, he's not getting it done." and put someone else in for crying out loud.

Additionally, after we went down by two touchdowns it did seem insurmountable. I knew we'd get a few more FG tries but two touchdowns? That's too much for us, right now.

Did this coaching staff make any offensive adjustments at halftime, at all? I didn't see any... just the same ol' futility.

RTR

I have seen the rent-a-cops at the gates block better than Capps has. I am just at a complete and utter loss as to why this kid plays. You don't burn a red shirt but there are other kids playing guard that you can at least try there. Doing nothing implies (to me) that the coaches are either blind or have given up on this team!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad2:

Re: Unacceptable

hogwash.. just look at UT last year they were full of young highly ranked players and had a crap season and lost to vandy. Now is not the time to flip out. Next season will shed a lot of light on the situation.

but what a change in UT did a good offensive coord. make??? hmmmm that argument just holds no water anymore. Last years seniors for UT were the #1 ranked recruiting class out of highschool, which means if the coaching staff had any brains they should have won the SEC. This years seniors at UT have had the benifit of a coaching staff that is together and on one page and moving in the same direction. what are the results of haveing a good offensive game plan vs. a mediocre half baked gameplan...look at the record of UT and Bama and the rankings of offensive stats and you will see.

If enough light hasn't already been shed, I'm not sure the program can stand any more light. :rolleye2:

Some questions for somebody in "the know". 1) Is there any particular reason JJ didn't run the ball in the 1st half or in the 2nd half before he got his bell rung (I think Shula should have given him an oppurtunity to back up his words w/a few more carries) 2) Is there NO one else on this team capable of playing RT? 3) How much longer until the inevitable www.firemikeshula.com opens up shop (the schedule's looking pretty bad next year) 4) Would we be any worse if Sarah Patterson coached the OL, Gotfried called the plays and Jim Wells took the special teams (at least they are winners)? 5) Did Shula realize he was going to lose the game after the final 1st down? (In medical terms you would say he has a "blunted affect" but since he doesn't have Parkinson's that's unacceptable)

First half--the entire team looks terrible. The first drive stalls (AGAIN) in the red zone, and everybody just shrugs. They look like they just don't care. That tells me that the coaching staff did a lousy job getting them ready for the game.

Second half--Defense gets on track, and starts dominating. The OL, if possible, gets worse, ensuring that every opportunity provided by the defense got squandered.

It's official: Our problems simply cannot be explained away as a lack of talent. Not when we just got embarrassed at home by Mississippi Freaking State.

i have had bama tickets for 8 years now and drive from memphis to every game. but even i saw this coming and game my tickets away beforehand. i mean if we can only amass 219 yards against fla intl with only 45 players traveling what did you expect today? now some can call me names as such for not going to the game but im realistic about my team and expectations as such. ms state started out scoreless the first 2 or 3 games but have recently turned their offense around. the same cannot be said about bama we have been very consistent on offense- consistently bad!! so obvoiusly the coaches at state are doing a hell of a better job in getting more out of less recruited players than we are at bama. heads need to roll after this...there is a reason rader wasnt in coaching when shula went and got him out of retirement. and the offensive line cant run or pass block...get a new offensive line coach... i really hope to keep shula for stability of the program but on if we are moving forward and not backwards....and this season reminds me a lot of 2000...look at the teams records we have wins against...bama is lucky we have had a cupcake out of conference schedule.

If Joe Kines works more than 70 hours a week to head the defense, then how much time should Shula spend on his duties as the director of the offense? I mean after he gets through with his full-time job of leading more than 100 employees, players and support personnel, not to mention the day-to-day duties of charting the course for what is essentially a multi-million dollar organization.

Is there really that much extra time left in the day after taking care of discipline, recruiting, removing names from spring practice awards and dealing with the fans and media?

I think that this may sum it up. Arkansas did it. We maybe we should too.

I agree with this 101%!!!

I'm disgusted but I've been disgusted since the Vandy game. I've been telling my brother that the way Alabama was playing they'd lose one of the "easy" games and sure enough it has happened. Alabama has beaten ONE team with a winning record this year.

Some people saw a train wreck coming and caught a lot of heat for it. Well folks, this is a train wreck.

Changes HAVE to be made. Bottom line... Connelly, Rader, Shula... someone has to be replaced and if things continue this way next year who ever of the three is left has to be replaced. What excuses can be made for this team that can't be made for Croom? There just isn't any valid excuse for losing this game.

You were banned last month. Do you think we are stupid?

I'm not saying we don't need changes w/ o-line and play calling. I think shula should let someone call plays. I just don't think shula needs run out of town. btw if hall made that catch in the 4th qtr or the 2 that were caught a hair out of bounds the results mighta been diferent

And did something happen within the UT program after that season? Why, yes, I do believe a change was made . . .

True, but Fulmer made the necessary changes last season and it worked. He got rid of the problem in his coaching staff, albeit an unpopular decision at the time, and brought back Cutcliff. Changes needed to be made, and Fulmer made them. I doubt Shula will.

Ok, so which would y'all rather have?

1: A good coach and a good person with a average record and no probation?

2: A good coach of questionable character with a national championship caliber program and three more years of probation?

I'm not saying there can't be a happy medium. There should be. But I think you have to start with choice one instead of choice two if you are going to build for success and for the future.

Re: Butch Davis, Greg Schiano..getting my list ready

Butch Davis is a real chance and would be a welcome
Steve S. is a dream but I don't think it will happen
Whoever we get Shula has to go

Davis doesn't have a chance...especially with the current administration in place at UA...IF EVER.

You don't spurn the Pres. of UA and the Ath. Dir. by accepting the job...only to say a few days later I'm going to the NFL.

If there is one thing you can count on it is this. The BOT wouldn't approve the hire...nor would the offer be made...nor will he be considered. You don't spurn UA and it is forgotten...

I will only disagree with #1.

Did you see how our 2 right tackles got manhandled? They should have to buy a ticket if all they're going to do is watch the game.

Did you see how hard it was for our receivers to get open, how hard it was for us to run, how hard it was to block, a 28 yd punt? Granted much of the problem is coaching but the hard fact is that we don't have enough good players that know how to compete at this level.

Believe me, I didn't mean to say there aren't problems with the O-Line, etc.

But in my opinion, we have the talent to win these games. we could have beaten Arky (should have). Our talent kept us close to FLA for a while. We should have beat TN.

As I certainly refuse to believe we lack the talent to beat MSU.

This level = MSU?

I don't think so. I think it's coaching. Again, just my opinion. We're really that much worse talent-wise than MSU? God help us...

To me, here's what showed up in this game:

1 - we do not have the talent
2 - we do not have the depth
3 - we do not have the coaching
4 - we do not have the strength

Not sure any of this can or will be fixed in the next 2yrs. Certainly not this year.

If true, then changes need to be made in coaching right quick. There were to be no excuses after this year. The scholy losses excuse only works so long...
