IMHO we really had a chance to put it away there. Not sure it was bad coaching or what. Nevertheless, no excuse. especially giving up a 99 yard drive.

Wasn`t it an option team that elicited the now famous " s.......t through a tin horn " remark ?He said that they surprised us with it. It's hard to stop when you just see it once a year, as with the service academies, when you're expecting it, because it takes different disciplines than conventional defense. Having to do it in the middle of a game must have been nightmarish. Given the surprise factor, we didn't do badly against it...
Georgia Southern rushed for 302 yards against us in 2011. GS ran the option, and CNS refused to mirror on defense. And we remember that year for our defense. Not necessary always the truth. We need selm who should be able to recall this.
Saban said the goal was to snap with 8 or 9 seconds left. I think our guys will gel or we will have 2010 all over again. I'm about to watch Pats v. Jets. The QBacking should be interesting...After 18 hours to think about it, I'm struggling to find positives, other than the obvious -- the win.
Positives:
In his first action on the road in the SEC in a loud and hostile environment, Bryce Young was 100% emotionally unaffected by crowd noise in an increasingly tense situation. The crowd affected some false starts by the OL, but that's not on Bryce. He was cool as a cucumber.
Also in his first SEC road action in a loud and hostile environment, James Burnip did fine at punter.
BRob got some huge plays when we needed them badly.
Reichard was his usual consistent self. Flirted with that left pylon a little too closely on KOs, but that's nitpicking.
After that, I'm at a loss.
Playcalling was slow, and we almost got delay of game several times. At least twice were after stoppages of play. I was coming out of my chair with some choice non-TF words. Don't know if snapping with fewer than 3 seconds on the play clock was intentional -- to drain game time -- or simply the result of coaches not getting the play in on time. Regardless, it places additional stress on an inexperienced OL to hold still -- something we were not consistently able to do.
Playcalling got predictable to the point of being quixotic. It was clear that Florida's D was stacking against the run. At least 8, often 9 in the box. Still, after the first quarter, we consistently chose to tilt at that windmill, crashing into the brick wall on just about every first down. Why, I can't fathom. The standard antidote to a stacked defensive front is the short passing game. And we had great success with that early. I have no idea why we deviated from that.
I no longer have confidence in the starting slot. The incumbent is playing because he's supposed to be reliable. He certainly isn't in there because of overwhelming athletic talent. But he is not in fact reliable. Today, it was a dropped TD pass that hit him between the numbers. Last week, he was a split second from fumbling going into the end zone. In the past, he's put the ball on the ground running after the catch.
Put JoJo Earle in as the starter. Yeah, he's a true freshman. But what's he going to do -- drop TD passes and fumble after the catch? We already have that, but without the higher ceiling that Earle provides. I did notice that Earle was in the game at slot and at PR when our collective collars were getting tight. So maybe.....
Having said all that, my main concern is the LOS. We got punked on both sides of the line, by a group that's solid, but shouldn't be able to dominate us like they did.
Especially on the DL, Florida's OL manhandled us, and they ran at will. Given our depth and experience, that flat-out should not happen. Our OL was slightly better against their DL, but not much.
Defensively, it was the show that nobody wants to see. Already mentioned the DL, but ILB was about as bad, constantly chasing after the play, rarely leading the charge. OLB was the best, especially Sanders...he's going to be a stud, if he isn't already. CBs were OK, but my goodness, Safeties were out to lunch. I about came unglued when the strong safety was out of position on the 3rd and 10 from Florida's own 1. If he just makes the tackle, we're off the field and in all likelihood in good field position. Instead, he misses, kind of like he couldn't decide whether to tackle or go for the INT, so he did neither. It's a 20-yard gain, and Florida goes on to score in a 99-yard drive. Enough to make the pope cuss.
This year's D has talent and experience. There is no excuse for how we're playing. I've been patient with the coaching, but four years in, I think it's clear there's a problem at DC. He may know the Xs and Os better than anybody in college football. It's not translating into performance on the field, and the excuses around youth and inexperienced players and coaches are gone.
Repeating what I said earlier: As it stands today, this is not a championship team. We will get better (and both the talent and experience are there), or we will continue to under-achieve our ability and we won't win a championship....simple as that.
Last year Ole Miss did the same. It turned out fine. I think.I remember 2014 Arkansas 14-13 game. We still made the playoffs. This came against a way better opponent m. We’ll be fine.
you’ll see the same people making the same over the top takes. Many of these people have been waiting for this type of game.Last year Ole Miss did the same. It turned out fine. I think.
We should revisit the postgame thread from the OM game last year. Just for laughs.
The official closest to the ball blew it dead...and then let the play continue. Horrible...Miss. State did not down the punt. Ball was live and Memphis player was aware and picked it up when Miss. State players thought the ball was dead.
I talked with a former Bama player and coach...he said this right off the bat. Earle gives more speed, options and presents more problems to the defense. You are correct in your rational analysis of the current starter...he's unreliable at best.I no longer have confidence in the starting slot. The incumbent is playing because he's supposed to be reliable. He certainly isn't in there because of overwhelming athletic talent. But he is not in fact reliable. I watched the Barn PSU game. PSU got the ball with 3:08 to go , Auburn had 1 timeout. PSU ran 4 plays and punted , the barn got the ball back with 33 seconds to go. Bama got the ball with 3:10 , Gators had 2 TO’s. Bama ran 6 plays and punted and the Gators got the ball back with what 4 seconds? Seems like with the extra 2 plays even with the extra time out we should have been able to run out the clock without punting.Am I the only one that thinks there was some funny business going on with the time clock? I think someone was trying to get extra seconds for their Gators.
Which is crazy, because he played so well as a truefreshman!I talked with a former Bama player and coach...he said this right off the bat. Earle gives more speed, options and presents more problems to the defense. You are correct in your rational analysis of the current starter...he's unreliable at best.
Pressure is different when you are the starter and expected to produce. His hands have been questionable at best when under the gun.Which is crazy, because he played so well as a truefreshman!
Bama will probably pipe in some extra loud noise to practice withIt will be even LOUDER in the land of the AGGIES. Also, add 10,000+ more fans in the stadium at Kyle Field than they had in the Swamp. The Aggies are probably rehearsing as we speak.
After any game where Bama faces adversity, there are “cracks” beginning to show, as well as Bama starting to go down hill........ I expect nothing less, and that’s what the opposition hopes and prays for.........I wouldn’t have a Problem with them dropping Bama down to 3 or so....... might be the thing to wake some players up![]()
Cracks are beginning to show for Alabama as Florida pushes Crimson Tide to the limit, again
The Gators appear to have the Tide's number ... in every way but on the final scoreboardwww.cbssports.com
May not be any different than many of our posters and even some of our leadership on the site. Hyper analyzing every crack in the armor.
I hope we fall to #2. I hope UGA becomes the belle of the ball. I hope OU stays undefeated. I hope Oregon runs the table. I hope we dink and dunk our way through the season.
struggle wins build character. Adversity forges determination. These guys that are freshmen and sophomores haven’t lost a game. Ever. Most of the games have been blowouts.
so I hope the Dodds of the College Football world, and even those on our site continue to find flaws in our season.
Fire away.
In Saban I Trust.
the process is proven. No reason to doubt it now.
Well, with the possible exception of Sanders, can`t think of a " Game Ball " worthy performance on the D side of the ball. My hope is that we just witnessed the low point of the season a la Ole Miss last year. After 18 hours to think about it, I'm struggling to find positives, other than the obvious -- the win.
