I’ve thought about this since the LSU game. I’m hard pressed to rag and blame college kids for playing a game. I put most of our problems on Saban and Golding. The strength of our D should’ve been the backside. We said last year that if we had Diggs then we might not give up the bombs to Clemson. After watching this year I’m not sure that’s true. DB’s are Saban’s strength and we never learned to play the ball in the air. I think Surtain has regressed. Some might disagree but just an observation from watching his season. Lots of young talent back there and hopefully this can be rectified. It should be at least.

As far as Golding is concerned, I know he was handicapped with only have 2 of his 7 projected front seven. But, idk if he fully grasps Saban’s system. It doesn’t seem he knows how to implement it effectively and teach it/prepare the kids to play. Again, I understand the injuries in the preseason. But, to me, the issues are bigger than this.

As far as the kicker situation is concerned I’m not sure what to think. We’ve not had a consistent kicker since Leigh Tiffin (let that sink in). I don’t think it’s talent. I do think it’s coaching and fundamentals. All of our kickers seem off from the approach, steps, and keeping their head down and following through. Consistently missing, especially in big moments, is preparation and development.

Not trying to be an eeyore just reflecting on the season and even the national championship game & the issues which have been apparent. Add to this getting gutted by the NFL, coaching turnover, and injuries 10-2 is an exceptional season. Just wished it wasn’t to the two we dropped. Hate losing to them both. First time since 2010 it’s happened.

Btw, we finished this decade 109-11 in the regular season since 2010. What a great 10 years it’s been.

I feel your pain.

At this point. I'm pulling for the Buckeyes in every game they play.

I like Big and appreciate his years of service to this board...but I lean Jalen. Yuk, hate pulling for Okie. But for Jalen I will. My thoughts though, it is Clemson, OSU, LSU and all others. I see very few scenerios w/o one of those 3 winning it all. Never know about UGA tho...

Mac Jones has to own those two picks. Mac Jones threw it behind Najee. It can't be Najee's fault he tried to catch it.

I'm not going to throw Mac Jones under the bus for losing the game, but it's way to early to name him starter and capable of winning future NCs.

He still has to win the job. I was just pointing out that he is very talented. If he does win the job, you will be fine (with some help on the other side of the ball).

OMG, we finished 10-2.........anyone remember the dubose, shula etc years............we would have sold our children into bondage at times during the dark years to have this record..........next year will be killer, these kids will shine............roll tide
I hear you, but we're dealing with human nature here. If we didn't have any talent on the field or the GOAT for a coach, we would be frustrated but wouldn't have very high expectations. It's the fact that we've had the number 1 recruiting class for about 8 of the last 10 years, then go out and lay that egg in an infinitely winnable game that has everyone worked up. Doesn't mean we want to go back to Shula or Dubose. Or Ears Whitworth.

People always used to say if you break Saban's defense you will break his run. Well there has been an onslaught to do that at all levels from the rulebook on down to lousy high school officiating.

Not pile on, but Waddle had to have spectacular game on special teams to dig us out of the hole we dug for ourselves - the probabilities of special team TDs are really low. So playing the percentages on both sides we played very poorly in pre-snap on offensive and very poor all the way around on defense. Blocking, snap, and hold were good on the last FG this kid and Cody Parkey in the NFL could have a contest for who can hit the most uprights.

I'm not saying it now because there is an older post on here to prove it but instability on defense since has been heading down hill since 2017. We are not as durable nor as deep since we changed body types to play spread. Everyone is recruiting the same kind of player on defense now.

I ask a legitimate question can we not go back to ball control physical running game and play action prostyle and build a defense that will support this strategy? It think we would still out talent most teams and still be in the hunt at the end of the season. If I am coach, I go out playing the way I want to play.

I’m a Buckeyes fan the rest of the year. Screw the SEC!!! Screw Clemson!!!

We are probably heading to the cotton Bowl vs Oklahoma or Baylor.

Fluke stuff decided this game. Poor execution decided this game. Poor discipline decided this game. Not some offensive or defensive game plan.

Not disputing you, B1G, but this is pretty much every time we play an average to good team in that stadium.

I agree that Jones did the best he could, but he came up short along with quite a few other players. I'm not convinced he's the guy either. I'm open to being proven wrong though.

That goofy pick 6 off Najees back and the holding call on the first drive....and...and....just so many dumb self inflicted wounds...so undisciplined...its hard to believe how undisciplined.
That's the part that will drive CNS crazy tonight. I bet he doesn't sleep a wink.

We need to replace a couple of coaches. We will probably have a lot of freshman play next year. Mac did a good job. We need four new O linemen but with this performance, they will not go pro. Penalties and not holding their blocks have hurt us all year. We have a lot of work to do to get back where we were. We need more SPEED.

The late motion penalties were disappointing, but come on: Our OL dominated Auburn’s supposed steel curtain for most of the game. We had 180 yards on the ground and MAC had time and lanes to throw. We dominated their defense and still didn’t win.

And that’s because when we had Auburn staggering in the corner at various points throughout the game, we let them slip away and stick around.

Facts, if not us I don’t want to see Clemson, LSU, or UGA hoist that trophy.

Best win is a 7-5 team after tonight. This is just about the most empty 10-2 season you can have. Our 2005 "fluky" 10-2 season had more substantive wins than this one.

Exactly. I felt so good at the end of that 2005 season. I felt like we got all we could out of that team and winning the Cotton Bowl was a great way to end the season. This just feels like a season of "what-ifs?"

You’re likely looking at a Ohio State Clemson final. They’ll match OSU against #4, wouldn’t surprise me if it ended up being Oklahoma. Then Clemson/LSU in the 2/3 game. LSU’s defense will get torched. Ohio State beats Clemson in a classic game.

It was just not our year. A lot of soul searching to do.

Saban is now 8-5 against Auburn, Coach Bryant was 19-6. Despite being more successful nationally than CPB, Saban hasn't been able to keep a lid on the Cow College.
