I think more people would have been left with a ‘wow’ impression had the WR caught his 1st risky throw over double coverage for a TD but the kid dropped it.
You still don’t want him routinely throwing into coverage but both Tua and Mac pushed the Ball like that at times but the WR caught it so you forget the risk.
The 2nd risky throw off the Manziel scrambling was a throw you just don’t want him making even though he got away it.
But I do agree he was trying maximize his minutes because he never gets to play and knew he wouldn’t be in for long.
I think he’s without question the front runner to start next season.
he took 4 downfield shots.
Overthrow to Prentice. Really needed to hit that one. Probably could have put just a bit more air under it, but some of that was also likely not having as many reps with Prentice to really know where to put the ball.
Got a PI on one that was a decent pass even though it was double covered late. WR probably should have made the catch
Sideline throw to the same WR. He really should have caught that one also.
Manziel scramble he connected to the TE. Under normal down and distance, yeah, not a great decision, but like CKD said, on 3rd and 15 putting it down there with a chance for a play isn't awful, especially after getting out of that pressure. Even if it's picked at the 1, it's just as good as a punt.
His other misses: the pass to the RB in the flat. It was slightly behind, but was catchable. Another was on a wild scramble outside, and Simpson was just a bit off. Probably catchable, but would have been a really good catch.
Overall, a pretty good performance with a couple of things to learn from. Most notable is that he gets set and ready to get the ball out very, very quickly. Wish he'd have gotten a couple of drives in some of the bigger wins where we had opportunity so he'd have even more experience going into next year.
On another note, 58 has a LOT of work to do to be an LT. He gave up a ton of pressure, often.
