Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. Mercer...

The QB room should be interesting next season. Ty showed a lot of good things yesterday and Mack did too. The position should be in good hands moving forward. But one thing Ty brings that is going to give him an edge and that's his scrambling ability. He can kill teams with his legs.
I think Ty got caught up trying to push one down the field in a big win yesterday. His short and mid range passing game is his strength he still should mix in a few deep shots tho.
If anyone thought ty couldn’t run his couple scrambles yesterday should put that to rest. the kid has decent speed and is shifty. I just knew he was going to take a sack on the long completion instead he just shook the guy off replanted and slung it down field.
Would be nice to get him some more reps because when he gets his feet under him and comfortable I think he’s going to be a really good QB. The future also looks bright with Mack and I could see next year being a dogfight in the spring/fall.

This may have been said previously but we needed that game yesterday. Meaning coming out and taking care of business to the point of playing third string. I wanted to see if they would come out and be flat or keep the momentum going. Unless something drastic happens I think we win out in the regular season.

I think it would be interesting to see how many of our opponents have open dates the week before. Of course, in fairness, we often seem to have a corresponding open week before our more significant opponents.
History says nearly all of them had a bye week before playing us.The SEC teams anyway. I often wondered how they managed that.

I remember that period of time when so many Bama opponents had a bye the week before playing Alabama. I don't think it was a random occurrence year after year. Seems like Alabama admin finally raised a stink about it to the SEC office and it got balanced out a bit better.

You said it - that was the game we needed. Mercer or not, there’s an energy, belief, and seriousness about this team right now.

The 1-0 mentality may be more than a cliche, finally. The second L really got their attention. I can see this team being catapulted forward and ripping off 6-7 straight wins.

The conference allows the school to request specific weeks off, and for many years the SEC simply obliged each request. They had to make a rule change after seven teams requested (and were granted) bye weeks before playing Alabama in 2010.

Dylan Lonergan, unless he stays to play baseball at Alabama, should head for the portal. Like a lot of former scholarship QBs at Alabama, right place at the wrong time.
I'm afraid you are right.
I thought Lonergan played well. Although the sample size was very small, I think he did better than Simpson. Austin Mack played well too.

Ty seemed to know he wasn't going to be in there but just for a short time and was trying to get in as many deep shots as possible. Overall, his scrambling ability and field awareness was very encouraging and I think he'll be the front runner for the position. But I also think the other quarterbacks will put up a fierce competition that if Ty doesn't take the job they'll take it from him.

That Austin Mack TD pass was eye opening. Lonergan didn't do much but seemed to get the ball out quick and his ball placement seemed solid at times. I felt a little let down by Ty but it was a really small sample size for all of these guys.

He was trying to do too much and get too much bang for his buck. He threw several deep passes down the sidelines he had no business throwing. Reminded me a lot of Milroe in the early going, just trying to do too much at one time. But I get it, he knew he only had a few series and he was done.

One pass that will catch my eye is the long sideline throw either in the backfield or just a yard or two past the line of scrimmage. Sampson releases this quickly and the throw is very sharp; I don't think many quarterbacks throw it better.

The ball comes out of his hand very fast. He's just going to have to learn (as Jalen did) not to try and play "hero ball" on plays that aren't there. Take what the defense gives him.

If Ty Simpson has not learned how to just play within the system by now, he never will. Based on what I saw Austin Mack is the future @ QB. I just hope TS doesn't transfer to AU as he is a serviceable QB, just not a world beater.
