I'm still not sure what I saw offensively from Bama in the 2nd half...was balancing the game and enjoying my granddaughters in Atlanta. Very confusing...at best. Bye week comes at a great time in our season...
You gotta understand he came over from Defense because he's heavy foot. He's not a true TE...Latu comes particularly to mind. Think it was the 3rd quarter on a L-R cross pattern about 20 yards out. He either gave up on it or he’s not 100%. Multiple times BY was scrambling and receivers didn’t appear to come back to the ball. Effort is lacking and you’re probably right about coaching. If Bryce has to improvise he should be getting some help from the alpha “Go To” Metchie type guy we don’t appear to have this season.
No, Bama was lethargic on offense. I didn’t see much intensity or enthusiasm at all. The rushing yards tell the tale. MSU ain’t that good. Evertime Gibbs got the ball seemed like an MSU defender was in the backfield.
For me, jury’s still out. I didn’t think The Who’s could beat Florida or Ole Miss and they beat both handily. If Bama plays no better than they have in the last two games, they get loss #2 in two weeks.
One week offense is good and they lose; next week defense is good and they win. Against LSU, both units have to play well for Bama to get a win. It’s looking like the West title may be on the line.
I don’t know what stick and nod concept means. Can you inform me,thanks. You gotta understand he came over from Defense because he's heavy foot. He's not a true TE...
Again, this has been explained by several folks... MIss State dropped 8 players in coverage... WRs can run a clean Route and still won't be open. So the issue isn't the WRs nor TEs. It's BOB.
You want to beat Cover 8 by doing what? Play Action. Run ball on early down, set up PA to do thsi. Out and Up Routes, or Stick n Nod Concept. BOB missed the opportunites to do that several times. Now, When MSU was Blitzing, We had Receivers catching the ball.
The Third quarter... That's partly on BOB and Young. BOB went conservative. Youngs throwing shoulder was tight... Some of his throws were off.
That's why I don't believe the WRs ran lazy routes... I saw efforts.
Exactly. BOTH Bama and MSU looked like they would pick any other place on the planet to be than at BDS. How any of the so called "pundits" can still have Bama penciled into the playoffs and/or national title game is way beyond me. We may not be going to the Birmingham Bowl, but we aren't going to be in either one of the semifinals eitherI could say a lot more, but will limit it to this. It appeared to me that two teams showed up Saturday night in BDS, neither showed any desire to be there and simply showed up to pick up a check. I cannot see this Alabama team in the playoffs this year.
Because it’s a mental thing. This team is the best team in college football when it wants to be. The idea is that the team will want to be during playoff time. There is also the notion that Saban will fix the noodles of the players. That’s just based on his previous performances regarding player psyche.Exactly. I totally agree when it comes to the offense not wanting to be there. I felt like the defense was very engaged. They came out passionate and several guys seemed a little angry, especially Hellams and Ricks.I could say a lot more, but will limit it to this. The troubling aspect is (frightening and eye opening, certainly) that Bama only got 29 yds rushing against a defense that was dropping 8 in coverage. Only 26 runs out of 64 plays? Was BoB not seeing this? Was BY missing it as well? You gotta understand he came over from Defense because he's heavy foot. He's not a true TE...

1. Miss State DL is real good. The troubling aspect is (frightening and eye opening, certainly) that Bama only got 29 yds rushing against a defense that was dropping 8 in coverage. Only 26 runs out of 64 plays? Was BoB not seeing this? Was BY missing it as well?
Granted, with longer field JG doubles or triples team rushing output because no defender was in his area code. That’s seems to be the MO of the scheme Bama runs: few/no yards/loss or 20-30+ yd explosions. And I’m guessing that’s by design.
But I think you take what the defense gives you (and they give you something on every play); the challenge is in finding and exploiting it. Eight guys playing DB on any play tells you to run unless it’s third and a mile; but I’ve read from others who obviously know a lot more than me about it (yeah, that’s just about everybody) that Bama’s oline wouldn’t get to the second level fast enough to contribute enough for an explosive run.
Haven’t seen stats but it seems like Bama has had many more TD runs of 10+ yards than they have of 3-4 yards or less. Maybe that’s just a result of opportunity.
1. No. 56th ranked rushing defense, giving up 262 avg AFTER Saturday. Not. That. Good.1. Miss State DL is real good.
2. Not quite true.... Dalcourt- We can't move a jack but better pass protection. Seth- We can move a jack, but average pass protection.
3. It was more of execution efforts...
Normally, I would say Hey, they will be fine, they will clean it up during bye week and we'll do just fine. But last year, I thought they would adjust after Bye week... We struggled against LSU(offense), Arkansas (Defense) and Auburn (offense). Then we played well against Georgia/Cincy.. and we win game against Georgia had we hadn't lost players.
Sometime BOB I think he try to be conservative until playoff... But I don't think he can afford to do that this year. He needs to put foot on pedal and keep gas it.
I didn't know BoB had a "foot to the pedal" mode. But if he does I'd just like to see it. Wish we'd go fast and aggressive a lot more often.1. Miss State DL is real good.

Heard the same. Hard to argue with him about those spots, but Alabama still has more talent than any other team in the country, IMO.Just heard Herbie say he called this game and this team isn't anywhere near as talented as some of Saban's teams in the past. He said the DL, secondary, and WR positions aren't as good and it shows.
That’s why they play the game. As far as “measurables “, I don’t disagree at all; but heart and desire are almost impossible to quantify and that’s where Bama is falling woefully short.Heard the same. I hate even using the word "soft" because it implies so many bad things in the realm of sports and competitiveness. But that seems to be part of the problem with this team, they are competitively "soft" and do not have alpha dog personalities that step and say "Enough is enough!".That’s why they play the game. Talent without desire is, well, this year’s version of the Tide. They just don’t want it badly enough.
I think he is right at WR and DL for the most part (though I think we have some young guys who could be very good to special). But I think he's off on the secondary especially if Ricks continues to look the the All American we expectedJust heard Herbie say he called this game and this team isn't anywhere near as talented as some of Saban's teams in the past. I would agree on the first and last one but as far as the secondary there's talent there. Kool Aid and Ricks are 1st round talents. They're one of the better CB duos Saban has had. I say this with Ricks playing only one game, but he played well and we know he's good. You also have Brian Branch who is a second round type talent. There's plenty of talent.Just heard Herbie say he called this game and this team isn't anywhere near as talented as some of Saban's teams in the past.
