Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. UGA...

All of you that are posting that DeBoer was the wrong guy are not thinking straight. If we drop to a perennial 8-4 team or worse then you will be proven right, but until then wait. lsu, tenneseee, florida, the barn, all floundered in mediocrity for years. They hired the wrong guys. texas 8&4 appears to have hired the right guy, but let's see their schedule get a little more difficult. Vandy appears to have hired the right guy, but let's see how he does without Pavia.

Ok , So Bama doesn’t deserve to go to the playoffs. So let’s put a three loss Texas in. Wait, Bama lost to Georgia by 21 . Texas lost to Georgia by 25. So no, Let’s put Vandy in the playoffs. Wait, Bama beat Vandy by 16. BYU got Blown out by 4 TDs twice to the only decent team they played. An 8-5 Duke team deserves the playoffs? C’mon.

After watching that, im not sure i even want to see us in the playoffs, we gonna get crushed.
Do you guys really think there are 10 other teams the caliber of Georgia in the playoffs? Everyone knows how difficult it is to beat a team two times in the same season especially the good Georgia teams. I’m not saying we can win in the playoffs, we’ve certainly regressed throughout the season, but the full body of work this season tells me we can beat all of them with better execution. If not, we’re sitting at 5-7 right now.

You are using logic and reason. The committee uses neither.

They may or may not put us in as the 10 Seed but they have any and all the ammo they need to bounce us.

We acted like we thought we were guaranteed a spot and didn’t even show up.

You can’t no show your final.

We don’t deserve to be in and didn’t earn it.

It’s like we opened the semester up in our Core Subject with an ‘F’ (FSU loss)

Made A’s for next 2 months (win streak vs Ranked SEC teams)

Then stumbled with a C- late (OU Loss)

The Professor tells us as long as we make a B- on the Final (UGA) we Pass with an A

We barely show up and then don’t even write our name right on the Final and turn it in blank and walk out.

I mean seriously every single person on this forum reading this right now had more rushing yards last night than Alabama.

We threw the opportunity completely away.

We might be #10 but it would be a straight up unearned gift of a 4th chance.

Look, yesterday was no fun. I don’t know whether this team makes the playoff. I’m not sure they can get healthy enough to make a run if they do. This was still a very good season for a second-year coach navigating the SEC in the NIL era.

We won 10 games, beat all of our rivals, were the first road team to win a game in Athens in 6 years, and made it to Atlanta. 90% or better of CFB is envious of a season like this.

We were always going to regress when Saban retired, the question was just how much. What he did was never going to be sustainable once he retired, and particularly not now in the NIL era.

I can assure you that our regression could have been much, much worse than it has been for the last two seasons. Some of y’all really just don’t remember Dubose and Shula.

I’m probably in the minority on this take, but I’m just glad that we are still in the top third or so of the conference and are continuing to beat our rivals regularly in the post-Saban era. I saw Dubose and Shula take 10-win teams that were trending upwards and run them completely into the ditch. I’ve seen similar things with other programs. The wrong hire can set you back 5-7 years. This isn’t that.

The losses sting, but on balance this team improved over last season’s team. Recruiting is still very solid. The program is stable.

There are some things to be cleaned up. We are not going to be a run-centric offense under DeBoer - ever - but they’ve got to figure out how to make it respectable on a consistent basis. Special teams need some work. S & C may need to be examined given our injury situation.

Given that this year’s team improved on some problem spots from last season (turnovers, penalties, winning on the road), I’m confident we will see continued improvement going forward.

Maybe we make the playoffs and maybe we make some noise.

Roll Tide.

Different interview than I was referencing with Lampley; both classic Bryant. Thanks for the clip
I think you are referencing the 1980 Bama / ND game. When Bear switched from Don Jacobs to Walter Lewis. He was asked why, and he replied . ‘Why ,to let the other Boy play’ . The game finished 7-0.

Another area that needs to be addressed is S&C with Ballou. We lost a lot of our toughness when Scott Cochran left our program. Sure we had some injury issues during his time, but we were tough as nails.

I respectfully disagree. I've been watching Bama football since dinosaurs walked the Earth. This does not look like a team headed in the right direction. Specifically, two seasons now with QB/offense regression. This scheme is not working because of the O-line IMO. With the talent we have, the right coaches could do a lot better than this. We need a complete reboot.

We don’t deserve to go to the playoff. BUT - who deserves it more? Texas? Vandy? BYU?

And that’s why we should go. We earned it. Even though we look pretty sorry. Grubb doesn’t have a 2nd bag of tricks? Geez.
I agree with your thoughts. We were 10-2 against a very difficult schedule. We should be in the playoff based on that fact alone. Do I think we will make any noise at all based on how we've played over the last month and a half? Absolutely not! I would expect us to have yet another embarrassing loss, so I don't really care one way or the other. I didn't watch any of the playoff games last year, and I'll probably only watch one this year if we make it. As others have said, I can handle a loss here and there. It happens. However, I find it tough to handle games where we look inept and weak.

Bama is making the playoffs. End of story. Some may not like it, You may or may not like it or feel it is undeserved, but deserving has nothing to do with it. The Gauntlet of games this team won. Beating Georgia on their home field. They have earned a playoff spot compared to the other teams 10 through 15.
The only reason Missouri is out of the top 25 is they had to play 3 games with their third team QB . Tennessee lost to Bama, Georgia Ole Miss, Vandy. All highly ranked. If losing to highly ranked teams is a disqualifier for the top 25, then Notre Dame doesn’t belong, they lost to the two best teams they played. Otherwise, Bama would be 4-2 vs top 25 competition, instead of 2-2

Perfectly written and even some on this board don’t want to admit it this was spot on…it’s not about Grubb, Womack or any other coach on the staff or analyst behind the scene it is about the man who steers the ship. Leaving Ty in was unfair to Ty and the entire team. Trying something different - even if it didn’t work would have been better than standing like a statue on the sidelines doing nothing. And for those calling for Grubb to be fired a simple question who hired and approved his game plan every week. And for those concerned about the cost of letting a coach go a question how much money did he cost the University last night if we are left out of the CFP due to his indecision.

Many are too young to remember Coach Bryant but coming back from halftime he was asked by a sideline reporter why he changed QBs … his answer - I’m just trying to win a ball game…Selah
Maybe, just maybe, Ty , no matter what condition he is in, gives Alabama the best chance to win.

Maybe, just maybe, the person with access to information we do have access to, has made the best decision in this regard.

Mack and Russell have looked great against inferior opponents.

The only fan worse than those who long for the days of Bryant will be those that long for the days of Saban.

This is not the NFL. reboot? Ha. perpetually chasing the perfect coach is not an answer. Just like at the Barn. If you have $60 million or whatever in your pocket, sure , go ahead and fire the coach. But then what? I guess Nick Sirianni may need a job at the end of the NFL season.
You are wrong, we have a capable coach. Is he in the Saban mold, like Kirby? Cignetti? Lanning? No. But two of those coaches chose to not have to compete in the SEC, so would you want them anyway? And Kirby ain’t leaving Georgia.

What does S&C have to do with that?

Toughness is a mindset instilled at practice.

I’m not removing any aspect of the program from being looked at and improved, but this is like firing Womack because the receivers can’t beat the jam.

After Bryant retired, it took 13 years to win another title. Then it took 17 years to win another. Hopefully it will not take anywhere near that long to win our next.
It’s going to take a lot more luck this go round. This is the third era of college football, gone are unlimited scholarships, gone are five stars waiting on the depth chart to be prepared for the nfl. This is the era of pay for play, and gambling that high school highlights will translate to college football and be worth the big check.
