this makes less sense. 5 games? next year? what if they go pro?
And some of them will. If they were on the fence, this will push them on over...

HOWEVER, this is what Coach Tressel had to say:

"I'm not sure this would be the best time to have a job interview."

Re: 5 Ohio St. Players (including Pryor) suspended for first 5 games of 2011

Of course, the NZAA has proved that their decisions make no sense in general, esp. as relates to the Barn.
No consistency in their decisions. This would be laughable if it wasn't so embarassing for college football.

From @Espn_Big10:

"Pryor must repay $2,500 for selling his 2008 Big Ten titlering, 009 Fiesta Bowl sportsmanship award and 2008 Gold Pants."
Wonder what the market value is for a pair of those Gold Pants?

NCAA's theme song is "Sell your kid, Sell your wife! Sell your kid, sell your wife!" but just don't sell a autographed jersey or title ring or it is big time trouble!

The NCAA has, without a doubt, proven this year that its not about policing the integrity of its players, staff, and schools, but about protecting the BCS, its sponsors, and its bowl TV ratings.

It appears that if Star Status is involved, they bend over backward to find ways that the athlete is either unaware or someone else did not properly educate them!

Bingo! Too bad if they're going to a major bowl. If they cheated, suspend them. And I'm talking about ANY team here, Bama included. Seriously think about it this way: Bama kids sell some textbooks to their friends/fellow students. Yes, it's wrong, but in no way did it give our team a competitive advantage on the field. Yet, the NCAA vacated our wins. Cecil Newton ADMITS to shopping his son to MSU and nothing comes out of it, because Cam "didn't know". I just don't get it....I really don't.

When Andre Smith was suspended for the 2009 Sugar Bowl, it was the University that suspended him, correct?

Yeah, pretty sure it ended with him being absolved of any wrongdoing. But CNS was not going to take a chance and it happened so close to the Sugar Bowl that we didn't have time to get a ruling from the NCAA if I remember right and we were not going to risk it. Of course it seems like it doesn't take as long for the NCAA to rule now...go figure....

Yep, that's where I was going with it. It becomes clearer everyday that the entire system needs to be rebuilt.

Re: 5 Ohio St. Players (including Pryor) suspended for first 5 games of 2011

One thought comes to mind, if I played for Bama and I had a championship ring the ONLY reason I would EVER sell it is if I had to do so to feed my family. I'm not unrealistic enough to think it does not happen on our team but I want 85 players has enough pride in their school to treasure a championship ring, not sell it for a few quick bucks.

From the Fox Sports version:
Ohio State initially suspended the players for the Sugar Bowl, but the NCAA immediately reinstated the players for the bowl game.
Hmmm..............this approach sounds familiar.

Except when it comes to stuff, like, say................textbooks.

Now, where have we seen something like this before? Wasn't too long ago, I think. Can't seem to remember, senior citizen moment. (I wonder if the NZAA has the same problem?)

Edit:

Oh, here is the reason!

The NCAA did not suspend the players for Jan. 4 Sugar Bowl against the eighth-ranked Razorbacks because the ''student-athletes did not receive adequate rules education during the time period the violations occurred.''
Sounds like they are making up the rules as they go. No, it can't be.......

It still makes no sense that they are allowed to play in the bowl, yet will be suspended for games next season.

If the "did not receive adequate rules education" excuse is good enough for the bowl game, why suspend them any games next season?

The NCAA really doesn't care if they look really stupid (or obvious in their motivations) or not.

Re: 5 Ohio St. Players (including Pryor) suspended for first 5 games of 2011

Marcus Wiley had a good point...who on here thinks the NCAA didn't get calls from the SB sponsors as soon as OSU suspended the players (initially) for the bowl game?
Think about it...without those players, OSU has no chance to beat the hogs...no way. And it might not be close. Sponsors want a game people will watch, after all.

No way in heck would the NCAA let big time $$$$$ rule over the integrity of college football & and supposed rules of the game..(G)
