OK...its time for another old photo thread. I have one from Alabama vs Memphis St. 1959, pregame warmups. I bought a stack of slides from a lady several years ago from this game and had them converted to digital...pretty cool. Also a 1983 pic that shows a good shot of the white helmets. I like old photos and assume everyone else does too. Post 'em if you got 'em.

Thanks, WBD. Love 'em. Put some more up if you have any, particularly the oldest ones. Haven't seen much of them from that era in color like your first one there.

I don't have any old pix I took, but, later today, I'll try to scan some of the old Corolla pix from '57 and '58. There's a neat one of Cecil Hurt's dad, who played tackle/fullback...

Great stuff!

I know most folks don't like the white helmets, but I do.

I have no old pics but I hope some more get posted.

Thanks!

That first pic looks like Ladd Stadium in Mobile. Same type scoreboard for sure.

Nope... shocking as though it might be, that is Bryant-Denny Stadium. That photo is taken from the West side of the stadium near the 50-yard line, looking down at the North end zone.

Aside from the fact that we played Memphis in Tuscaloosa in 1958 and 1959, if you look in the background between the end zone seating and the East side seating, you can see that's the UA campus. It might be hard to see initially, but if you have Firefox's Image Zoom installed, zoom into 400% and you can see it very well.

In particular, locate the tree just to the right of scoreboard. Now, look just beyond the tree, and you can see the dome of a building. That building was the old Alabama Union Building, which was later renamed (and now is) Reese Phifer Hall.

And now 50 years later...

It's almost hard to believe how the times change things.

Or you can just look at the scoreboard where it says Alabama-0 Visitors-0. But you're technique works too BET. ;)

But in all seriousness these are amazing pics. Thanks for sharing them.

Earle can speak to this much better than I can, but if I remember correctly, the North end zone seating was the student section at the time.

I've been trying to remember, and I don't believe students were restricted to the EZ. I've looked at the pix in the '59 Corolla, and students were clearly in the stadium. It may be that the visitors were there. I'll try to raise Bama61 and see if his memory is better than mine...

When I saw that pix I had a flashback to sitting about 20 rows up right behind the Alabama bench... all dressed up and quite possibly at that very same game. :)

Thanks for that pix, Wishbonedays. It really did bring back great memories. And I might remark that Coach did NOT look anything like that older pix, in those days. :) The grizzled old man is not my memory of Coach.
