Old Photos

Earle can speak to this much better than I can, but if I remember correctly, the North end zone seating was the student section at the time.

When the endzones were completely enclosed in the '60's, the old bleachers from both endzones were relocated to Livingston where they would become the "home side" seating for UWA which was then Livingston State College. They were replaced several years ago and I don't know what UWA did with them.

:mad2:
Yep...got a bunch...but I collect them too...here's another...Ken Coley vs Miss St.

great stuff....love the 70's stuff

I've been trying to remember, and I don't believe students were restricted to the EZ. I've looked at the pix in the '59 Corolla, and students were clearly in the stadium. It may be that the visitors were there. I'll try to raise Bama61 and see if his memory is better than mine...

I recall in the mid to late 1960's the student sat in the east stands kind of between the 40 yd back toward the north end zone.

The red and white radio tower, the one that still stands today, is a dead giveaway as to that pic being in Tuscaloosa.

Got any other old Tuscaloosa pictures????

It was Jacobs at the end of the game with the fumble on the 1 yard line. What many people forget about that game is that MSU actually fumbled the exchange on the final play of the game and E.J. Junior recovered, but the ball was ruled down on the one foot line rather than in the end zone which would have been a touchdown and the wildest end ever to a football game. I was in the endzone and really thought we had a touchdown on that play.

My memory is not as it should be. I forgive my namesake Don then. All I know that loss tore me up. I do remember that they had a defensive guy named Billy Jackson who we could not block all day as we had Billy Jackson in our backfield.

I think the year is 1969. The logo in the endzone is the 100 that was put there to recognize a 100 years of college football.
Agree. I, along with GrayTide, was on campus during that time. Don't remember the young lady's name, (will pull an old program to check it) but she was the featured twirler and quite good, as I recall.

Although I think I forgot before I forgave Don Jacobs for that fumble in 1980, he was actually putting on a two minute drill clinic before the fumble. The DE just shot the gap and hit his knees and out popped the ball. I'll never believe that Alabama wasn't cheated on the very next play, with the ball popping up right over the goalline and Bama recovering. Could have been the first and only threepeat National Championship.

I was at that game. We stayed downtown in a hotel and that's all we heard was those damn cowbells. I haven't been back since!! MSU, also broke that 28 game winning streak we had going. Also, "Shorty Price" died that day going to that game. It was a dark day for the BAMA fans.:BigA:

A friend of mine and I went over Starkvegas to see us play them in basketball back in '69. They still were playing in their old, small, intimate fieldhouse at the time. Let me tell you about cowbells......:eek2:
