The Landshark meme started with the late Tony Fein in '09. Back then, they had a pretty good defense, and Tony Fein would make the shark sign every time he made a play.

The irony is that Ole Miss's defenses under Hugh Freeze were like Swiss cheese. They just tried to outscore everyone, blowing huge leads.

I’m almost embarrassed for them. They should have either just embraced Col Reb, altered what type of rebel he was, or just dropped a mascot altogether. This landshark-Black bear nonsense is just sad.

My intel is that's "almost on the money" - NCAA wanted to chasten the school by changing their nickname to the Ole Miss Good Bookkeeping Seals, but that wasn't a strong enough sanction for their financial transgressions so they were ordered to become the Ole Miss Loan Sharks.

That’s usually how a shart begins. Once Ole Miss realized that this might actually become a problem, the momentum had built up to the point that they simply couldn’t hold back the big mess that was about to happen.
