A news release from OU does not name the players, but News 9 sports director Dean Blevins says one player is starting quarterback Rhett Bomar.
The release says an investigation by the university found the two players were paid to work at a private business and were paid for hours they didn't work. OU said the two are being permanently dismissed and will not be allowed to return to the team at any time.

I hate that for Oklahoma. I really believed they had a chance to win it all this year. Does anyone know if they have a capable backup behind Bomar?

That sounds like UcheaT and Awbarn, but the NZAA does nothing to them, so what's the big deal. I guess we all know where Bomar will be transferring to this fall. Hey, Fat Phil, you may have a new QB!

I doubt the NCAA will hit them very hard. It looks like Stoops took care of that situation as soon as he caught wind of it. I applaud him for making a stance. I doubt we would see the same out of many coaches.

Just read where Bomar was paid $10,000 even thought he wasn't working. Some fo the alleged times given for his "work" was during scheduled workouts @ OU. As was posted above, this is the same dealership from the AP scandal. The NZAA may be going to work soon on this one and w/a microscope. Repeat problem w/booster? We shall see.:conf2:

"NORMAN, Okla. -- Based upon an investigation initiated by the University of Oklahoma and facts uncovered by the University, Head Coach Bob Stoops today announced that he has permanently dismissed two members of the Sooner football team.

The investigation by OU revealed that two football players received extra compensation above that to which they were entitled related to their employment at a private business. This is a direct violation of NCAA rules. The two accepted payment over an extended period of time in excess of time actually worked. OU is taking the initiative by declaring them ineligible for the entire current season and by permanently dismissing the two from the team. They will not be allowed to return to the OU team at any time in the future.

“We spend a considerable amount of time addressing our players regarding their personal conduct and the NCAA rules,” Stoops said. “They know exactly what we expect from them. Ultimately, they have to make right decisions. The same holds true for our boosters. When they do not, the consequences are serious, and we will not tolerate this behavior.

“Our team and University actions are necessary because of the intentional participation and knowledge of the student athletes in these violations,” Stoops said.
“I firmly believe that our program is stronger than any individual player and that a championship program cannot compromise its values,” he said. “We are proud to represent a University with the highest possible principles,” Stoops said.

"I strongly support the decision of Coach Stoops," said OU President David L. Boren. "Coach Stoops has done the right thing. His action reflects the basic values of our University,” Boren said. “While this situation is deeply disappointing, the University is sending a clear and unmistakable message that OU will never compromise its high ethical standards or its integrity. We share the sadness about this situation with our fans and players who have followed the rules, but we believe in our program and in this team, which we know will carry on in the great Sooner tradition.”

Athletics Director Joe Castiglione said, “I am disappointed in these student-athletes. The education process is something that we take very seriously. We talk about it frequently and include guidelines in many of our printed materials. In the end, individuals must decide right and wrong for themselves and then live with the consequences. Unfortunately, many more people who themselves play by the rules are also affected by these consequences.”

I love my Sooners, but anybody that puts our program at risk has to go. This immature dumb*** has screwed over the entire Sooner Nation. What a waste.

I dont think Bomar should be kicked off. Its not like he was stealing from someone. I dont think these actions are right, just not severe enough to get kicked off the team. I understand why OU had to do it.

At least make him work until he has worked enough hours to where he would have earned that money. Just think he deserves a second chance.

Oh Please, OU was not going to win it all anyway....they were avg last year and now with the same players they were going to win it all-don't think so. Phil smells....

Its not cheating until you get caught-they knew the risk and now they have to "pay" the price. Hope OU doesn't go down with them though, good program.

Oh please...this second chance stuff makes me sick. He and all other players know that there are strict rules on receiving money from outside sources. It's being reported that he claimed for tax purposes to make $18,000 a year...although he only worked roughly 5 hours a week. That's an enormous difference. Such an enormous difference that there wouldn't be enough hours in a week for him to go to school, practice with the team, and work the extra hours needed at the dealership to make up for the amount of money given to him by this booster. Bob Stoops is displaying integrity and fairness by kicking him off of the team. Bomar is learning about consequences...

Exactly, can you imagine if this had happened at UcheaT or Agbarn? I applaud Stoops as well, if this turns out to be the case, kicking your starting QB and potential starting G off the team after a disappointing season the previous year takes a lot of guts and moral fortitude. I hope this doesn't greatly impact their season in a negative way and I hope they beat the crap out of franny and the aggies!!!!
