I only watched half, but he is saying what we are saying. Ty had a wonky( yes, I wanted to use that word) night , exasperated by a relentless blitz. The running game is what it is. We knew this, yet the offense has changed since early season. We weren’t trying to run much early in the year, short passing game became an extension of the running game. But we have gotten away from that lately. It seems our OC is bound and determined to run the ball, and I do believe we need to keep defenses honest and run some, but not every first down and not a 22 blast every play call . It’s crazy. I thought he was more creative, but his creativity is limited to double passes and wildcat with the QB on the jet sweep. maybe physicality is inherently absent with this offensive system, even with a 244lb back, or a 366 lb back.
I think this is what many Bama fans are struggling with. I know I am. For years our MO was imposing our will on the opponent by physical play (MTAQ). It seems we are more finesse that physical. This actually precedes CKD, going back to CNS’s last few years.I only watched half, but he is saying what we are saying. MTAQ went away quite some time ago and it isn't coming back anytime soon, if ever.I think this is what many Bama fans are struggling with. I know I am. But Pate makes a good point. We WON. We just don’t win the way we expected or are accustomed to. A play here and a play there, and this game is a blowout.
Still the point should’ve be lost. We have to make those plays.
It’s been awhile since, probably 10-14 years since we played power run style football. Not just us, very few teams play power football.MTAQ went away quite some time ago and it isn't coming back anytime soon, if ever.
This season we will win with a mediocre O-line and non-existent running game or we won't.
But that's who we are this season.
I wonder how many teams in the power conferences base their offense around the running game, or power running, without including the QB in the running game? It seems like most offenses that are ranked highly in run game stats include QB running to some extent, which is something Bama is not going to do with Simpson. It doesn't excuse this team's lack of success running, but a more pro-style run game seems much harder to implement in today's college football. It’s been awhile since, probably 10-14 years since we played power run style football. I agree that the coaches continue to try to work both a traditional running game and long passes into the mix. I wonder if the same will be true on Saturday. Oklahoma's defensive front is excellent, the dbs are, perhaps, not on the same level. Tennessee threw it all over the place against them. The coaches do seem determined to get the run game on track, as well as the deep pass plays. The deep pass plays may just need more reps in practice. They've only been working on those recently, and I mean with serious intent.
But I liked our offensive game plans earlier, where we did a lot of short to medium passes, with run plays using WRs, as well as the RBs. Especially the pass plays to the RBs. And the toss sweep. Those plays were working and chewing up the clock. We were winning with that strategy, and looked good doing it.
But then they want to run the ball 3 times in a row at a brick wall. And throw long bombs we miss by inches.
If the run off tackle is not working, then don't do it. Use the RBs in other ways. Daniel Hill can catch. He played WR some in high school. Let's go back to the short yardage plays that were moving the chains. And keep practicing the long passes. But we'll need a better pass protection strategy for the deep balls.
