Lot of talk about the secondary but then supposedly they aren’t getting pics. Yes two things can be true about a qb doing well and secondary can be good but in reality the secondary usually gets theirs if playing well. QB is supposed to be testing his limitations in practice too which usually leads to some pics.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
I like hearing that the defense hits "HARD" and the secondary is "very deep" and "cannot tell the ones from the two's."

I noticed he somewhat tempered the QB expectations with "there aren't any heisman trophy winners in this group, or at least I don't think there is". But he made it clear that Alabama is solid at the QB position. We don't need a Heisman trophy winner at QB, we just need a solid game manager who can distribute the ball, not turn the ball over and get us in and out of good/bad plays. We've never needed a Heisman winning QB to win a NC.

Agree with your take.

There's zero Heisman's between Gmac, AJM, Jake Coker, Tua and Mac, but 6 national championships. In the mix there are some game managers, but also some guys who were pretty dynamic.

Our Heisman winning QB, Bryce, never notched a national championship.

If the QB is good enough to just be somewhat in the Heisman discussions, that's good enough if the talent is around them.

some of that depends on what the coaches are stressing for the players. It's somewhat likely that after last year, the coaches have put a major priority on taking care of the ball and not having the turnovers, so in the scrimmage situations, the QB would be doing that instead of pushing limits, while in other types of reps in a more standard practice is maybe pushing the edge a bit.

OR - maybe TS is just doing that well in practice. I read one report that said he was 14/15 or 15/16 in the second scrimmage (I don't recall the source, or knowing if it was that solid, but it seemed really specific) and that the only incomplete pass was actually a drop by the WR.

I think the comment about Kellon Russell is promising too. Probably not ready today, but in a crunch they could get him ready in 6 days.

I think it means what most of us believe. KR is the QB of the future at Bama.

I'll say it again. I hope Ty has a breakout year that leads to a 1st round grade. He goes in the draft and makes his big $$$ and Keelon gets 2 years to get to the NFL. That would set us on a good QB cycle if it worked out that way.

Ty going 14/15 is also what I heard. Charlie Potter said on the BamaOnline podcast that Ty was 14/15 for 150 yards, according to his source. He also said Ty was being smart with the ball, knowing all the studs we have in the secondary, and when there's nothing there, taking the checkdowns, instead of throwing into double coverage. After what happened last season, this is music to my ears.

A #1 hit song!!!

If I understand it correctly, this is how the desired CKD/CRG offense is designed to work. Short completions in space that often lead to bigger gains.

And if you can do this to a team enough, they'll start cheating up and then BOOM, over the top is wide open.

We finally have a QB that not only understands that, but can see it and execute it.

I'm fine with Ty playing it somewhat more conservatively. Don't get the INT, don't run and get killed.

The long balls will come. Force the defense to cover everything and to keep enough men in the box to stop the run and there will be plenty of 1 on 1 opportunities for the deep ball.

Let's hope that Ty is just making all perfect decisions and throws. Seriously, we'll see in about ten days. So looking forward to it and rooting for him and the rest of the team!!!

I see some here still have reservations about Ty. "We don't need a Heisman QB, we just need a good game manager..." Yes, someone who can make smart decisions and move the chains will be great. But I believe Ty can offer much more. I believe Ty will be a Heisman caliber quarterback. But I get it. Some of you aren't convinced enough to say it. You want to see proof on the field. Reminds me of when Mac Jones was called on to start the 2020 season. Many here were not convinced. Some still calling for Young to be starter. I had predicted in 2019 that Mac would be the top quarterback in the SEC. Not Kellen Mond. And I'm saying now, Ty Simpson will rank right up there with Manning, Nussmeier, and Klubnik. You'll see soon enough. Ty will be elite!

I'm very optimistic with what we have seen and heard about Ty through Spring and Fall. he's shown a lot of versatility in ability to make the full range of plays, against great competition in practice. The only hesitation is that there are some players who just can't translate their practice scrimmage selves onto the game field. If the game day Ty is the same as the practice Ty, I think we will be in very good shape.

The "practice Ty" was apparently not good enough to subplant JM last year (I know many of us think other things were involved too), but the good news is the "practice Ty" must be vastly improved this year, by all accounts.

I've never been concerned with the "game day Ty" because every time he got the chance, he looked like the real deal...on one exception...dropping the long TD run at the 1. I'd be willing to bet he NEVER does that again. He will probably run into the tunnel with the ball like Forest Gump!

His play in that debacle at South Florida proved that at the very least, he is a competitor. That game still blows my mind.

I think he was good enough last year talent wise. Either there were other factors still plaguing him, or Milroe stayed in the coaches' faces. And they bought into it. I honestly believe they wanted to bench Milroe at some point, but something held them back. And I don't think it was related to Ty.
