Looks like Nussmeier is the last guy standing, with the other two going elsewhere. I just don't see us promoting Groh into the position.

I liked shotty but Nussmeier has a more impressive resume and it looks like the NFL for CBS anyway. I'd be very happy with Nussmeier fwiw.

I think Coach Doug Nussmeier would be a "tremendous" asset to the Bama Nation stable of fantastik coaches!!! He has a great "ped-e-gree" even though he is fairly young in years as a coach.......he was a great QB, and a Walter Peyton Award winnner, etc............."IF" selected I think he would truly be a welcome asset .....RTR!

I think it will be a good hire. Interesting to see not only what he does with AJ but, will Simms stay thinking he may have a shot to compete for the job. Not bashing AJ one bit, just wonder if Simms would benefit..... If nothing else, push AJ to get better....

Makes sense. If he really wants an SEC Head Coaching job, it'll be easier for him to leave the NFL as a coordinator for a team after a year that it would be in the same position at another SEC school.

I like Doug a LOT better than the other two. I know it's the PAC12 but he liked to have the balanced offense in Washington which is rare out there. I think this was our best bet out of the 3 named.

Jeff Smoker too, as mentioned before.

His one year as a play-caller, at Fresno in '08, was pretty impressive. Good yardage and a balanced attack, for those who favor that. Nussmeier took over for McElwain at Fresno, and Tom Brandstater managed the offense for both OCs, so maybe a direct statistical comparison would be interesting: overall Brandstater's numbers are very similar both year(something to do with Pat Hill's influence?), throwing a little bit more and a little bit less accurately under Nussmeier. Here they are:

2007: 211-337, 62.6% compl, 2654 yrds, 15 TDs, 5 INTs
2008: 221-371, 59.6% compl, 2664 yrds, 18 TDs, 12 INTs

Looks like this is leaking now... good hire.. was very intrigued by the Pep Hamilton possibility out of Stanford though.
