I hate to break it to some of you Bama fans, but if the barn made an offer good enough to his liking, I think Dabo would leave Barn with a Lake for the Barn in a New York minute.
If you are talking about $20 mil a year or some other preposterous salary - even then, only maybe. Anyone with an ounce of sense sees their handling of coaches, they see the eternal dysfunction of their administration, they see the behemoth that is Alabama, they see the ridiculous expectations. For Dabo, add that he is on easy street at Clemson regarding competition and his current success. And if you believe that he has a genuine love for his history with Alabama, you can add that. Money is not everything and that is all that AU would have to offer Dabo and Clemson would likely match anyway. It would be more than shocking for him to seriously consider an offer. Leverage maybe.
Note too, the kind of coaches that AU
always hires. They have never hired a big time coach in their history - not once, ever. They were all up-and-comers or worse. Jordan, Barfield, Dye, Bowden, Tuberville, Chizik, Malzahn. Is it because they require a certain kind of control over any coach that they hire?
I would not be surprised if the Stoops rumors were pure fabrication. Maybe not, but again why would he do it? I don't know how big his ego is, but that is the only reason I can see that he would be intrigued, along with the money: take down the greatest run ever. Greed and glory - the driver behind most endeavors. Even if he was serious, once he saw how they run things and the requirement of his complicity, IMO, he would reject it. But OU has had a history of its own, so who knows.
