They buy into the beauty myth that's sold to them by the magazines, podcasts, Madison Ave, et. al.

But then again, we are a "looks" society when it comes to females. Look at what is said about the appearances of female celebrities and politicians and their looks.

But when you want to say it's all on the above things, you hear women who listen to music based upon the looks of the male singer/entertainer. I remember hearing women bash Tom Petty because they said he was ugly.

A buddy of mine joked about it one time, "Hey, do you think John Coltrane worried about his abs?"
