Allright, A-Day is over. What position battles are going to be the most heated come Fall? I know some True Frosh could sneak into the mix but let's keep it to the guys that suited up last Saturday.

Personally, I think it's going to be at RB. I like Terry Grant. Coffee and Upchurch are threats as well. Will JJ get back in the mix? This time the stable really does look kinda crowded and with Coach Saban prone to riding only 2 backs through a season, this position battle could get intense.

OK, next in line is Nose on the DL. Looks like Motley has found a spot. Will he keep it? Will Zo challenge him? If I recall, he was hyped almost as much as Andre was as a recruit. Will this be the season he proves it was all legit? What about Byron Walton? He's got the size, for sure. This is a key position battle that might not get settled until the middle of the season.

Finally, our favorite spot to point fingers as being busted the most, the good old RT spot on the OL. Mike Johnson has it now. BJ Stabler is waiting for his shot. Chris Capps has taken alot of abuse for some past blunders but he has the experience. Will Mike keep it?

The Honerable Mention Battle would probably be at QB since I am a big GM fan, but JPW has all but locked down this position.

I think at some point in the season Chapman could challange Motley for the DT position. Motley has the advantage of having the spring to work with Coach Saban, but Chapman played DT in a 3-4 defense in high school.

RB will be the position to watch. If JJ can't win a position in the rotation, he could become one of the biggest wastes of talent in a long while. He needs to talk it over with the staff and dedicate himself to whatever position they feel he could help the most.
I hope we have good competition at NT and LB. I think Capps days are numbered at RT unless his feet get much quicker.
It's time for Zo to claim a spot. Good competition everywhere on the field would be perfect. Those that buckle down this off season and work hard to improve will be the ones given the first chance to shine. Lets hope everyone takes this approach.

One position that hasn't been discussed as much as the D-line or RB is WR, unlike last year were it was like "i hope someone can step up and fill in the gap." this year its like well if he gets hurt at least we know that someone can step up. If Oakley can stay health he could have a big year, Caddell seems to have gotten over his drops, DJ should hopefully get bigger and stronger and be able to beat up on some corners, If KB can stay healthy he should be a threat as well, and someone who looks like he could be a real game breaker is Lowe, he made a couple of catches out in the flat and looked good returning kicks. :BigA:

My biggest concerns is RT, NT,and Lb.IMO,all the other spots are solid and have SEC type talent. However,I was not impressed with NT,RT,or lb positions after spring practice. To be honest,I really hope we can plug in solid help from true fr. and/ or L Washington can report for summer camp healthy and take over the NT spot.Yes,P Hall showed much promise, but other LB's just seem inconsistant, and I hope McClain reports ready to play, along with A Mc,J C,and L D. Otherwise we are in for some real growing pains.I really feel we are very thin at these positions and the spring didn't give me any more confidence. However, that said,I'm pumped over the change in attitude and work ethic of the team and saw much improvement in all other aspects of the team.

Agreed, we are indeed thin at some defensive positions. However I am buying into the belief that Coach Saban, like Coach Bryant, will succeed in getting the most out of a player, unlike some previous HC's here. Injuries to the LB/DL positions are going to be critical until help arrives as some of the young guys get battle experience. We really need some games where we are ahead so the new defensive players can get PT.

I look for a lot of competition at the RB position and in the secondary. We need some solid cover corners to allow our defensive front to develop.

Out of all the positions, I feel the best about WR. DJ Hall stands to be maybe the biggest WR threat in the SEC this season and he will be complimented by Keith Brown. After these 2 we have solid depth with Nikita Stover and Will Oakley. I see DJ getting alot of double teams this year and this is going to free up alot of coverage on other go to guys, especially the TE. Playing us man to man could be the worst mistake a Defense could do against us this year and I pray that we use the screen pass like we did during A-Day. This Offensive firepower with the right playcalling and a veteran QB could be a sight this season and we may need it with the learning curve over on Defense.

RB will be up for grabs unless someone really steps forward. The incoming freshmen will challenge for PT along the DL (that is assuming that they report in good shape in the summer).

I think the secondary is where we have the least worries, not that there are none but the least. At RB it looks like Coffee and Grant will get the most carries, at least at first unless something changes in the fall.

With Taylor in the mix, I think we'll have a couple of people who can carry the mail back there. We really need a breakaway kind of back who's got the afterburner to outrun a DB.

I think the spot opposite Simeon is up for grabs with: K. Jackson, E. Gray, and L. Mitchell all vying for that spot. We have the RT position still up for grabs and I believe we will see some changes in the linebacking corp once freshman get in there.

RT - 61/78*
RCB - 16/36/24/3

WILB - 57 - speed .
SS - 20 - toughness .
Jack - 94 - coverage skill .

... and I find the TE and RB situations quite interesting - in a good way .
