Potential final ranking prognostication

That is definitely how they will tip their hand.

There is really no reasoning for any movement based on this weeks results.

A&M is the only Top 15 team that lost but they wouldn’t drop far enough to affect us in any way.

BYU beat UCF to get to 11-1 but why would that justify suddenly jumping us before CG week?

If they do that’s them pushing us into the Bubble to drop us like a bad habit at 10-3.
We’re gonna have to FORCE the committee to put us in. Even the ESPN predictor has us the 7 seed if we WIN the SEC. The champion of the best conference in college football as the SEVENTH SEED…

With Oklahoma making it in and finishing 10-2......the only way we'd pass them in the CFP rankings is if we beat Georgia by 4 TDs.

Oklahoma is our ceiling. We win the SECCG and they'll keep ATM and Oklahoma above us.....and possibly Ole Miss. Although I'm not sure what they'll do with Ole Miss with Kiffin not coaching them. They may come up with some reason to knock them down a few.

Yep

I was so ticked at LSU for choking that game away.

I ran tons of Playoff sims before this weeks game and getting OU out of the way opened up the path for us to get as high as 5-6 Seeds a few times.

But with them in the way we are stuck around 7-8th without the Committee making a human choice requiring some intellectually nuanced thinking.

So yeah…. 7th-8th

Rankings Tuesday.....my projection:

1. Ohio State
2. Indiana
3. Georgia
4. Texas Tech
5. Oregon
6. Ole Miss
7. Texas A&M
8. Oklahoma
9. Notre Dame
10. Alabama
11. BYU
12. Miami

Keep in mind that North Texas or James Madison will get elevated to that 12 slot in the last rankings....so if you're 12th you're gonna be out.

- If BYU beats Texas Tech.....both will be in.
- Oregon / Ole Miss / Texas A&M / Oklahoma / Notre Dame / Miami.......are done and have to wait for the final rankings.

- Ohio State vs Indiana
- Georgia vs Alabama
- Texas Tech vs BYU
- Virginia vs Duke.....I don't think the winner here is guaranteed a spot. Because the committee has "discretion"

I think there is a knee jerk reaction that occurs immediately after games each week. For instance, the discussion Friday night and Saturday morning was whether Texas can get into the playoff, but that has subsided and the reality is they have no shot. Now there is knee jerk reaction to yesterday’s games where there were no upsets, and we need something to talk about so it becomes Miami getting in or Alabama not being guaranteed in. This will subside as well most likely, and the focus this week will be on looking at teams in their entirety of the season.

We know how close they just copy these like crib notes.

So A&M is at #7 now and OU at #8

Good news is they did not jump BYU over us so maybe the committee mirrors that.

It could come down to the question of would the Committee jump a potential 11-2 Bama over both a 11-1 A&M and 10-2 OU by virtue of being the Conf Champ?

I’m not sure they would.

The “discretion” part is always the sticking point. I don’t know how this is all going to play out, but they left us out last year using the excuse of not wanting to penalize a team for losing the ACC conference championship game. This year they appear to be treating the SEC conference championship game as just another game on the schedule from one quote I saw, and if Bama loses next weekend we’re out again because the committee was allowed to move the goalpost from one year to another. If Sankey does his job, he’ll be in front of the camera all week trying to head this off. For what little it might accomplish, if Bama gets bounced because of a close loss next weekend, I’ve watched my last college football game for the year. The only way to stop this kind of crap is to quit contributing to it.

Random question, but is ole miss worthy of a playoff bid if Lane isn’t coaching them? Could be wild

I’ll try not to assume that. I know some of this is going to seem out of order, but I got bama over UGA in sec championship and them not giving the entire big 10 byes first round

1) Indiana (after beating Ohio state)
2) Ohio state
3) Texas tech
4) Alabama
5) ole miss
6) Georgia
7) Oregon
8) tamu
9) notre dame
10) Oklahoma
11) Virginia (ACC)
12) James Madison

Left out: Texas, Vanderbilt, Miami, BYU

If BYU beats Texas tech then Oklahoma may be out
I’ve already heard on multiple networks the OSU at #1 and IU at #2 are locks for first round byes. Regardless of the outcome of the B1G CG. Thanks for the home board discount on the SEC championship game, but If Bama loses, and BYU wins, Bama may be out, not OU

- Virginia vs Duke.....I don't think the winner here is guaranteed a spot. Because the committee has "discretion"
If Virginia wins, they are an automatic qualifier. If Duke wins, there will be no ACC automatic qualifier. The rules state a P5 conference champion has to be ranked in the top 25

If we win the SEC championship we will be a 3 seed or 4 seed. There is no way the committee can not reward the champion of the best conference a bye. The BIG10 champ will be 1, If Texas Tech wins the big 12 they will get a bye, the SEC champ, and then maybe the loser of the big10 or SEC games will be 4th depending if they are close. Texas A&M benefited from the easiest possible SEC schedule of all time. They really do not deserve to be in the playoff, but one lucky win over Notre Dame makes them world beaters

I think their rules say highest ranked G5 gets in no matter what. Furthermore the rules aren't highest P5 teams anymore. but 5 highest ranked conference winners.
Yeah I changed it. I didn’t see North Texas. I know they have to be ranked to make it. Highest ranked G5 team. Duke isn’t ranked, and probably will not be if they beat UVa.

So TAMU lost to Texas (8-3) by 10 and dropped from third to seventh in AP. Bama was 4th about couple of weeks ago and loses by two to a 10-2 Oklahoma while turning the ball over three times and missing a potential winning chip shot FG and drops from 4th to 10th.

Makes perfect sense….
Dude, we can't run the ball. Haven't you heard?

Every coach who has ranked those teams in the top 10 20th or below needs to have his voting privileges revoked. That is utterly asinine.
