POWER!!!!!!!

I have since it started and continue to pray for the Power and other utility crews who have worked long hours under high stress.
Talk about under the gun!
They have done an amazing job.

I'll be going back to Madison today. Hopefully, I'll have power when I get back in.

Percentagewise, Madison has a lot more power than HSV, so you have a good chance. I live up on Monte Sano, where the whole community is on grinder pumps and each holding tank only has a cpy of 55 gallons. Between Wed. afternoon until Sunday, the tanks had only been emptied once, by a city employee with a generator. Not only that, but I believe that the Ledges community on Huntsville Mountain is all grinder pumps and there were plans to place Green Mountain on them also, but I'm not sure if that were accomplished yet or not. If the tanks run over, they represent a real health hazard. One neighbor, who has young children, almost had his do that, because bunches of other children were coming there to play and used their commodes. It makes sense to put those pumps back on city power...

LOL, we may not get power til weekend at least. Bremen and Hanceville substations were destroyed. :(
If they are Alabama Power substations and they can get the transmission lines hot to serve them, hopefully you will get a mobile substation until permanent repairs are made. I believe Georgia Power has sent some over for use. Comes on a tractor-trailer and can serve a small town.

It's GREAT to have "POWER", i.e. Electrical power!

I really feel for you guys in Alabama.

I can only relate because of Hurricane "Ike" a few years ago. That's the first time I met most of my neighbors. We went at least a week w/o electricity. No TV. No cooked meals inside the house. I cooked everything you can think of on my gas grill. We had too cook everything quick because otherwisw we would have had to throw fish, chicken, etc. out because of no electricity.

I also listened to the radio more than I had in many years. I was laying in bed one night several days after Ike listening to the radio. In fact, I was just about to get bored listening to the radio for news, etc. All of a sudden, boom there was light. It was really a great feeling when those lights came on. Candle light is cool, but after a week it was great to have the real thing.

My grand kids received showers by candle light.

When Ike came through, I stayed in a central closet the entire night. I could not go to sleep. The wind was blowing so hard that I honestly thought it would take the roof off. You don't know if a "tornado" will spin off the hurricane after land fall.

The next time this happens in the Houston area, I'm headed to Dallas and beyond, if necessary.

I really wish that all homes were required to have a SAFE room! If what hit Tuscaloosa and other parts of Alabama hit us in the Houston area, we would be lucky to survive because the only thing left would be the slab.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in the Southeast, especially Alabama. I really would like to volunteer to assist physically in some way. Although I live in the Houston area, "My Home's in Alabama, no matter where I lay my head".

Osama or is it Usama received his Tornado on Sunday, May 1 in the form of the USA Navy Seals. You know this was great, but it took the tornado devastation off the Media's radar for a few days. However, the Media needs to stay focused on the need for assistance in rebuilding lives and homes in the Southeast, esp. Alabama.

Great news! I often wonder how it was in the 1800's, living in these United States. No lights, no a.c., heck no windows. All the flys and nats inside your house. I'd go crazy. I'll tear up a house going after a fly with a fly swatter!

Sometimes it seems that we are "entitled" to the luxuries we have. And I guess as long as we pay for a service we are entitled. It can be gone in the blink of an eye.

I thank the Lord in times like these that when I wake up in the morning with a roof over my head and can get out of bed without having to get into a wheelchair to get around.

I am one very lucky person.

hats off to my southern utility brothers! those guys go un-noticed until situations like this. if you see a crew of linemen, stop and thank them, they'll appreciate it!

Wooohoooo!

Wooohooo! me too! Finally.... May 7, 10:45 am, the computer and water heater are working again! Now I can experience a hot shower and catch up on Tidefans. Also those little things on the wall make the lights come on. Wow.
Remember to pray for the families of those that suffered loss of life, the injured and those with property damage during these storms.
