A tangent universe
Today at 1 pm Tiderinsider.com held a luncheon at a restaurant and Rodney talked about recruiting. The general consensus was...

Whitehead- AU

Hawthorne-AU

Grant- Alabama

Talbert-Alabama

Goggans-UT or AU

Stevens- AU

Smith- Alabama

I think thats it. I feel better about Pnut though and think we have a legit shot at this kid. With Hawthorne honestly who knows. Bama K said that Tims parents have an approved list of schools (USC, UA, AU, UGA) that Tim can choose from.

If I am doing my math correctly, three is about all we can add without oversigning too much.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

3 grayshirts from last year.

21 current commits = 24

Adding three more would make 27, with the assumption that a couple may not qualify.

Is that about right?

I hardly ever disagree...

with Rodney (in private or public), but I hope he's right about Smith and there's no last-minute (Cadillac) skulduggery going on at the last minute...

well,...........

we've certainly been down that road before! :mad2:

I am glad to see most people in the know are predicting Andre Smith to Alabama. I am very optimistic he will sign with Bama but that Gator/Tebow visit makes me a little uneasy. I think it is between Alabama and USC myself from what I have read.

Just about everyone thinks Whitehead is headed to Auburn. I am curios if Whitehead and Hawthorne are a package deal. Most people have no idea where Hawthorne will end up. I hope everyone is wrong and they both decide to sign with Bama. I am not predicting that just holding out slim hopes that will happen.

As far as the TI predictions go:

Whitehead - AU ... Most likely

Hawthorne - AU ... Who knows?

Grant - Alabama ... Now this would be very good news.

Talbert - Alabama ... I would think it depends on what happens down the stretch with only 3 or 4 more schollys open.

Goggans - UT or AU ... Probably AU

Stevens - AU ... They got that right.

Smith - Alabama ... I have all my fingers and toes crossed. ;)

Tillman - Alabama ... One can only hope that is the case.

I'll tell ya Surf, Andre' is a lot like Goggans in this respect. He's getting advice to look in a lot of different areas. Mom wants one thing, Dad says consider another with Andre'. Goggans...coach says one thing to one coach, another to the next.

No one knows...but the signs all say he's probably ours. If he didn't commit to Bama Weds...I can't say it would be a surprise...for that matter, a loss.

Grant - Alabama ... Now this would be very good news.
Some sources are claiming that he's a STRONG Bama lean at this point... around the 80-20 kind of lean. Tough to substantiate the sources though (as with several of them at this point in the game).

It would be great if we get Smith, Grant, Talbert, andTillman. We still have some spots that we need to shore up, but we can target these next year ( dt and lb). I'm very nervous about Smith, but several are confident so maybe they know something that I don't.

who now

Now that it looks like TH and Peanut may be headed to AU. Who rounds out this class? I think we have an extremely good shot with Talbert and Grant. That makes 2. I think AS is been too tight lipped for me to say that he's a bama lean so I conservatively say there's a 25% chance of him coming (since he says all 4 teams are equal). We really can't do too much about contacting recruits this week because its a dead week can we? That may mean that we couldn't make a push for somebody like Byrd. Assuming we don't sign anybody else are there scholarships (saying we have the usual amount of nonqualifiers) we could carry over until next year's class (maybe for a punter) or would it have to go to a walk-on?

There is still a shot we get Whitehead tomorrow as he is committing at noon. I say 50/50 for Whitehead between us and the Barn. I saw Grant and Talbert are locks (Grant moreso than Talbert). And Smith will round out a good recruiting class. I also believe we may get someone we are not thinking about. Someone that we have offered a scholly to, but has not committed anywhere. It's a longshot, but I have a feeling. I don't know what these will do to us scholly wise, with the grey shirting, leftover schollies and what not, but I'm sure CMS and staff will take care of that.

Finally, Wednesday will end this hectic, exciting, nervous era we like to call recruiting. But hey, starting in the summer, if not before, we get to start all over again. Come on GJ Kinne!

So who could that guy be that we are not thinking about? :)

I wish they would keep the recruiting board open year round. It barely even slows down after signing day with coaches building roads to next years seniors and Juniors.

Heck up in Tennessee they are already handing out Lincoln Navigators to HS sophmores so they can prove they were "mentoring" young men prior to their recruitment. Where were these guys when I was in High School? My car stunk!
