Question: QB Greg McElroy UPDATE***

McElroy got us to the bowl game and deserves to play if healthy. A bowl game is a reward for a team who had a successful season. The more you watch our offense the more you realize just how much McElroy actually meant to our offense. At many times this year he appeared to be the only leader on the team (either side of the ball).

Well said, BigAl. I didn't see what I wanted to see out of Ingram this year, I'll be honest. Dre Kirkpatrick will become a great leader, but he's still too young and getting seasoned, and Dareus, Barron, and DH just aren't "leadership material", in all honesty.

Thank the good Lord that Greg is alright. Our guys played a spectacular game against one of the best teams Auburn has ever had. We have nothing to be ashamed of and I would LOVE to play that one again anyday. I am thankful for how much our guys put into that game and it should serve to show us that we are on the right track because that game was as good as ours on a few occassions.

I hope that our guys believe that when God finds integrity in man and a desire from him to have it he is pleased. Don't give up, make an effort to show class and it gets better. I appreciate how hard we tried and we will most certainly get better. What were doing is worth doing but it's how we go about it. Thanks again men for a champions effort and for setting a stellar example for those behind you watching. We appreciate it and we absolutely LOVE you. GO BAMA, ROLL TIDE!

Congratulations Auburn University on your victory. You absolutely earned it and I would like to say God bless and enjoy the rest of the ride, it is awesome. War Eagle!

GMac has obviously earned the right to start. One month should be long enough to recover from a concussion. But, there is no need to risk long-term health issues. As much as I like to win, no game is worth what appears to have happened to Kevin Turner (ALS).

So, let 'em start. Hopefully, we come out and play. (And don't go into a shell.) Hopefully, build and maintain a lead. Then, let AJ get some game time.

The odds of our team playing a full 60 minutes seems very remote. But, I see no reason to put GMac's health at risk.

What I'm saying.

The seniors have earned the right to play the bowl game. Given a choice, no competitor is going to sit themselves, even though they might be "this close" to the money.

It would be excellent if next year's starters could get some snaps, but you win the game you are given, and worry about next year, next year.

I'm pretty sure GMac, Ingram, Julio and the others all want to play in the bowl game and would feel cheated if they were held out so next year's guys can get some experience. As stated above, the bowl game is a reward for a successful season. Those guys deserve to play and, after all, they're still Bama players. The NFL will need to wait for one more game.

I thought GMac had injured his shoulder or perhaps his collar bone. But head injuries are always scary. I hope he doesn't have any more concussions. OTOH, the hit on Hanks really scared me. The way his head snapped around was brutal. I haven't heard anything about him. I hope he's okay.

You don't play football either as a coach or as a player worrying about getting hurt. You don't "save" players during bowl games just because they have a NFL future. You play the players you have to play to win the game.

All of these players have a loyalty to their team and teammates. I would think and hope that players like MI and JJ would want to play as much as needed to help THEIR team win the final game of the season.

I dont think we will see Greg play on sunday...

Here is a tweet I got from Greg

GVMcElroy Greg McElroy
"Thanks everyone for their warm thoughts & prayers. I feel great today & am well on my way back to a very quick recovery from my concussion."

NOBODY enjoys tough, hard-fought football more than this old man but really hope he or the coaching staff limits his playing time in a bowl. I keep thinking about the white heavyweight boxer (Cloony?) from about 20 years ago who ended up sitting in in a wheelchair, having to be fed his meals, and incontinent due to concussion.

Football is a game and no game is worth risking one's life for.

However, whatever he decides, I certainly wish him well.

You are probably thinking of Jerry Quarry, rather than Gerry Cooney.

Cooney is in fine shape and very active.

Quarry, who died in 1999, suffered from dementia pugilistica. He spent 30+ years being punched in the head.

Yep. Jerry Quarry it was. Must have taken too many punches in my younger days too.

Was such a sad way to see a bright, brave man like Quarry finish his life.

That concussion thing is just too dangerous to risk for a game...especially with a history of previous concussions.

On the other hand, a life of fear is no life at all.
