For the first time, we'll actually be getting to T-town on Friday and will be able to setup on the quad that afternoon. So my questions are:

1. Are there a lot of people on the quad on Friday nights? If so, are they there late?

2. Should I set everything up on Friday (grill, chairs, etc) and leave it setup after I go to the hotel; or is there any danger of things being stolen after I leave?

Thanks in advance. There will be 7 first-timers to Alabama football in our group so we want to show them a great time!

And obviously my TideFans family is welcome as well.

Thanks and Roll Tide!

1. It depends on what the meaning of the word "lot" is. Now, before the lawyer jokes start, suffice it to say there is a significant amount of activity from the time you're allowed to set up (3:00 P.M.) into the early evening. There always seem to be a few die-hards that stick with it most of the night; however, most Friday nights, it tends to thin out before it gets too late. I've known of some to stay out there all night. Also, I usually get out there pretty early on Saturday mornings (6-7 A. M.) and there are usually a few people buzzing around already. What I'd be most concerned about would be between the hours of say 1:00 A. M. and 6:00 A. M. Not a lot of folks around and those that are wouldn't be paying attention unless they're the ones you need to worry about.

2. That's a judgment call. We usually set up our tents and leave them through the night. Sometimes we will leave a table and a chair or two under our tent throughout the night. We've never had anything to disappear or get damaged. However, we've never gone ahead and set up our grills, satelite dish, TVs, stereo, etc., or left our coolers out there. Let's face it a cooler full of brewskis might be too tempting for many people to pass up.

Bottom line is do what you feel comfortable with. The vendors will be setting up and there is usually some type of University personnel present (though I wouldn't call it security) Anything you leave out is "at your own risk"; however, just use common sense and you should be o.k. It probably wouldn't be wise to leave a big screen TV, plasma screen, HD, etc. our there unattended. A couple of rickety old chairs and a beat up folding table, I wouldn't think twice about it.

There will be no problem with things walking away if you stay with the things and drink beer until sunrise!

Seriously, though.....maybe just set up your canopy Friday evening. Then get there early on Saturday. You'll be fine!

The Quad isn't inundated or anything on Friday afternoon, evening, but there are usually a few folks that stay until late into the night. If you plan on going over and setting something up Friday night, you should have no problem finding a lovely spot. Obviously, leave nothing overnight that you highly value (satellite dish, tv, nice chairs/tables). I've never heard folks complain of having tents stolen. You should be able to safely stake out your claim of where you want your tent/canopy, leave it partially up (most of the EZ Up tents can be put halfway up, and that's what most folks do), and be able to sleep well overnight without concern.

BamaLaw's response was perfect.
As game day activities are increasingly directed by Bruno's Events Team, security will tighten. The biggest risk is Friday night before Homecoming when the band roadies load up their items and everything else they can grab. Early one Saturday Homecoming morning when I was out walking on the Quad, I came across a couple of guys trying to load some EZ tents in the trunk of their car. When I questioned them, they told me they were caterers for the band and were just packing up. I told them there was no damn way they had brought those tents with them based on their trunk space. When they insisted they had, I called the University Police and they were gone in 30 seconds without their tents. The Friday night before Homecoming is the ONLY night that I have heard of a problem.
Beginning this fall the core of the campus will be shut down to automobile traffic at least 3 hours before kickoff. Coach Shula doesn't want a delay in moving the team down University to BDS. There is even talk that it could go to 4 hours before kickoff. Getting there early Friday afternoon to unload makes sense.

we are students and we set everything up on friday afternoon and party out there and then go to the bars late. We have had only one bad experience and that was some drunk guy trying to steal our beer and cut a hole in our tent while trying to do it. We sleep out there friday night and alwasy watch for others stuff around us. we are the tan tent that is enclosed with the big bama flag poles coming off the tent. we will be more than happy to watch your stuff on friday nights. most of the people around us bring us beer some breakfast when they show up. swing by the tent and ask for patrick and i will help you out. if you cant find us look for the flags and loud music next to randy smally's huge red and white circus tent.

Thanks! I'm not sure how late we'll be there Friday but I'll probably try to find you and take you up on that. We'll be whipping up some eggs and bacon/sausage for breakfast Saturday morning on the griddle, so, assuming you don't sleep the day away after partying:biggrin: , I'll save some grub for you. Or if you're a beer-for-breakfast kind of guy, we can accomodate that too;) .
