When I see posts titled "Is Bama Football Dead?, sad face-Auburn will win by 30 or more, Have We Bottomed Out Yet, sad face-An emotionless Shula leads Bama to another loss, Do We Really Want To Go To A Bowl, If Shula Does Not Win Six He Should Be Gone, Shula Looks Like A Deer Caught In The Headlights, We Will Never Win Another Game", etc., etc., it ruins my day.

It gets me very depressed and discouraged. It does no good to NOT read the posts (some of which I did not read) because just seeing the title depressed and discouraged me.

So, could you have two football boards, one for the pessimist and one for the optimist? That way I could avoid all the cry-baby, spoiled brat, negative, gloom and doom stuff and just go to the board where people have encouraging things to say. Misery loves company, so they could have a great big pity party all to themselves and I could go to the other board.

I need encouragement. I can go forward with encouragement. Discouragement just drags me down and makes me feel bad. (This is true in all of life, from work, to church, to family.) It has gotten to the point I don't even want to get on TideFans any longer and lately when I have I just get back off again and am thinking of quitting all together. I don't need all that crap and I don't see how you moderators can stand reading all of it. My hat is off to you.

It's tougher than you can imagine.

We fans are so polarized...

right now, if we deleted all those threads, then that group would be after us like the hounds of hell. Disagreement will be permitted until it crosses the lines set out in the posting rules...

Hang tough!

Redwood - You can't let the negatives get to you. You have to keep the faith and believe that BAMA is on our way back....it's just going to take some time to heal from the NCAA sanctions. Let Coach Shula go through his learning curve and see what happens through the rest of this year and get back our full compliment of scholorships...then make an educated decision. The BS from the naysayers is just that...BS.

My fav is all the personal attacks that Jess has to put up with lately. I'm shocked and amazed that he hasn't pimp slapped someone yet.

Jess and Cecil Hurt are standing back to back taking on all comers.

I think that people going nuts is what drives me to this board. It's shocking and almost unbelievable but without the excitment of seeing weird stuff, I am not sure I would want to return.

Who wants a board where everything is peaches and cream? Not me  :eek2: :p :p :p

I didn't ask for them to be deleted, just that the cry-babies have a board of their own so I wouldn't have to see the stupid and idiotic, depressing, disgusting, meally-mouth, girlie-fan crap.

Red...

Have you thought about the amount of time involved in keeping each off the other board? The optimists might enjoy listening only to optimists, but, I'll guarantee you that the pessimists don't want only to talk to pessimists - they want optimists to torture, and, hopefully, convert... :)

Misery does love company.

Fact is, there are those screaming "Fire Coach Shula".. they obviously have no thoughts about the stability of the program.. no understanding of the devastation wrought by the sanctions, and no clue as to what it takes to lead a team...ANY team... to consistant wins.

The first year I coached youth soccer, which is a far cry from college football, I went 0-9. The second year, half the team had been on my team the year before. We went 5-4. The third year I started seeing siblings of my older players show up on the team, and we went 9-0. I learned. It only took me a couple of years to figure out how to motivate those children, produce wins, and ensure that they loved the game.

So if something so very simple took me three years, then how long might it take a major collegiate program's coach who is also learning that the nuances of being numero uno are a far cry from being an assistant or player?

As I mentioned in another post, there is a difference between Champions and those wannabes lurking around. Being a Champion is a state of mind, and for the champions, losing is the exception, not the norm. Champions rise above players, coaches, and fans, and deliver performance and occassionally, stumble. I only know of one program in the SEC that fits that description:

The Alabama Crimson Tide. Roll Tide Roll!

As a Bama Team News Moderator I quite often post an article or link to the Bama Team News Board that I do not personally agree with or even like to hear expressed. I am often tempted to just not link the article. If I do that I may be leaving off a story that other Bama fans may like to read. I don't go out of my way to find and post articles with a negative slant but if I come across them I will post them to the Bama Team News Board.

Tide Fans is just like society there are many different types of perspectives, opinions, and ways of expressng varied outlooks on Bama sports. They way I deal with it is if I don't like the title I just don't open the thread or participate in the discussion. Hopefully the positive and negative posts and articles will balance each other out and we can peacefully co-exist.

This column from the Mobile Register is antagonistic and very ridiculing to "much of Alabama's fan base."

Tide fans should live in real world

Now that the delusions about a 7-0 start and a blood feud in the Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M are dimming under reality's light, some Alabama fans are openly wondering if Mike Shula is truly the coach to lead the Crimson Tide back to national prominence.

There's no clarion call to get rid of the second-year Alabama coach after Saturday night's embarrassing home loss to South Carolina, but more than a handful of Tide fans have brought up names such as Steve Spurrier or Urban Meyer on Internet message boards and talk radio programs.

If it weren't so pathetically sad, it would be funny. Urban Meyer? Yeah, he's leaving Utah for Alabama when Notre Dame and every other major power will have him atop their wish lists. Sure he is. And Spurrier? Let's see, you're Spurrier and you can choose continued retiremengolf, the Miami Dolphins, Texas, North Carolina or Alabama. Of those five options, Alabama is no better than fourth.

I had thought of the "Whine and Cheese" board.

From my years on the internet, there are three types of posters:

1. The "Doom and Gloom" gang.

2. The "Everything is Rosey and we have no problems because we are Alabama" gang.

3. The intellectutals who rightly wonder what's wrong with the way the team played and what calls were made, but, by Monday, they are through talking about it after rationalizing with other intellectuals, and they look towards the next game without gloomily looking to the last game.

Here's my philosophy: I think it's healthy to talk about a problem..hey, guys, right now, it appears we have a problem in the QB position...but we just hope it's discussed without personal insults to the coach or players and, after some conversation about it, we can move on to the next game without discussing it ad nauseum. Makes sense?

Me, personally, I wanted to vomit after the game Saturday night, and I left room for discussion and frustration. But, Sunday, I cleared my head and begin to think about my unrealistic expectations of the team because we were 3-0, and I reminded myself of something I said last summer about one injury could make or break their season. I also realized South Carolina is 4-1, with their one loss being to UGA, whim they led at one point 16-0. I'm ready to move on to Kentucky, and it's hard to get ready for Kentucky when everyone is still mourning South Carolina.

Folks, one or two games do not make a season. If Bama drops the next two, then, yes, there is concern. Let's just wait and see.

If you want to feel miserable about the last two weeks, that's fine. But, please don't make us as miserable as you are. Being miserable is a choice.

Thanks guys, you have made some good points and I feel a lot better. I had not considered the dark side would of course come right over to the bright side and rain on our party. Maybe I know as much about Moderating as I do coaching?

Also I saw I had become a whining, cry-baby too. Not about the team, but about the board.....complaining about what is wrong, and how to fix it. But at least I wasn't demanding the Mods be fired or saying we'll never be a good board again or the posters look like a deer in the headlights LOL. And my constructive criticism was to the Mod's who could do something about it.

So, whinning begats more whinning, rubs off on others, is an infection.

I wonder how many of the gloom and doom are so depressed because the Barn is doing so well? Probably a little jealousy there.

I love Bayou's signature. ROFL

I wouldn't necessarily call myself an intellectual; but count me in group three. The reason I stay on this site is because it gives me a forum to speak my mind. Good or bad.

I'm not happy right now with the coaching staff because I believe that we're seeing that they did not plan properly for the current situation at QB. I think the team is making too many mental and fundamental errors. I could be wrong about this; but it's my opinion.

That said, I still support the team and the coaching staff 100%. I believe that Shula (and the program for that matter) need 2-3 more seasons to get this program back to stable. Stability, continuity and improvement along with the upgraded facilities and fan support are what's going to bring this program back to the top.

Coach Bryant once said, "Losing doesn't make me want to quit. It makes me want to fight that much harder." I think that's where we are as a program right now. The fanbase is at a point where we hurt so badly for this program that we want to see it get back up and fight that much harder. It hurts to see a loved one (our team) get knocked down. Especially one that hasn't been knocked down very often.

Because of this, you see varying forms of fight from the fans. Everyone is fighting "that much harder." Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves. TiderInMiss is pretty accurate in his assessment of the posters/fans. That is just their personalities - and I'm quite sure they are the same way with everything in life. But, more than likely, each fan, in his own way, is venting what they feel is necessary for our team to "fight that much harder" in getting back to the top.

As long as they stay within the rules, I have no problem with all three types of posters/fans. I don't necessarily agree with their rationale or actions; but I respect their right to vent. It's the same right that I have.

Variety is the spice of life. And on TideFans, we seem to be chocked full of fruits, nuts and various other spices! :)

Although you're going to always have someone who's not happy with something, winning will take care of a lot of this negativity.

That starts with KY this weekend.

Red: You'd better stay around. I'd miss like crazy your humerous stories. Got a real kick out of the troll story - excellent parable.

I, too, fall into group 3 I think. I'm too optimistic a person to ever fall into the doom and gloom category. I'm also too realistic to don crimson colored glasses and think everything is fine.

Anyone with any sense should know that playing so many young players with little or no college experience is a recipe for mistakes, dumb plays, near misses. This is CMS first recruiting class and they are doing very well with 2005's class also shaping up very well with verbals from much needed positions like linemen and QB. 2005 will be tougher than this year schedule wise and we will still be a young team with the majority of the team being made up of sophomores and freshmen. 2006 is when I expect there to be a major improvement in the Wins column and while I am naturally disappointed with our two losses I'm not ready to put a gun to my head!
