Question: How does Clemson do it?

There is an earlier post of an article from Saturday Down South that states for the last four NFL drafts Alabama and Ohio State have dominated the first three rounds. They each have 26 draft picks with LSU being a distant third with 13 picks.

My question is: how does Clemson win so much during that time without getting anywhere close to Bama or OSU in high draft picks?
Clemson's recruiting classes have been very high during the last four years but their players are not drafted very high in the draft. I can't figure out how they are doing it.

Perhaps someone else has an answer.

Yep he’s only 50 and has 130 Wins and 2 NC’s already.

If he stays healthy he could easily go another 20-25 years and probably have a shot at passing Bowden’s 377 Wins.

I don’t count any of Paterno’s wins for obvious reasons.

Coach Bryant should still be #1 if those two hadn’t been so obsessed with staying well past their expiration dates just to pass him in Wins.

Also, folks getting mad about "but he hung around." Hell, Bryant himself admitted he was doing the same thing.

When making comparisons, though, we also can't slink down into "But Rockne won 88% of his games," given he only coached 13 years. Bryant's winning percentage for ten years (1971-80) is a whopping 90.6%. Add in his last 2 years, and he was .876 in a much tougher era against better teams.

Which is why you can't compare 13-year careers with 38-year careers. Go look at the fact Bowden was run off because he was "only" winning 9 of 13 games per year, which lowers your pct.

Different eras for scheduling, too.

As in, for most of Bryant's career, the season was 10 games, plus a bowl. 11 total.

Now with "preseason" kickoff games, the regular season, conference championship games, and maybe 2 playoff games, it's at least 12 games, and as many as 15.

Doesn't have a bearing on the winning percentage, but over a period of say 20 years, it has a huge impact on the number of games played and therefore number of wins for top coaches.

Your question is kind of vague. How are they doing what?

Making it to the CFP every year? Then the answer is a weak conference schedule...

That's true. We just played 10-11 games a year including the bowl game.

I'll say what nobody else is willing to say (and I understand some of you don't like Dabo) but at some point, you've got to give him credit for being a pretty good coach too.

All those other ACC schools play in the same conference but aren't racking up wins like him and then when he meets a good team he has them ready to complete.

Maybe.

But he'd have to do it without the massive scholarship advantage he got prior to limitations.
And he'd have to do it without the disadvantage of "we play on TV and other teams don't."
And the SEC esp 2006-2013 was substantially stronger than it was in the 60s and 70s.

I'm not discounting his accomplishments, but it would be interesting to say the least.
