It depends on how much of a longshot and whether the player just doesn't try hard in the classroom or he's just dumb as dirt and has zero chance of ever qualifying. A shining example of this would be Tyrone Prothro last year. Almost all SEC recruiters gave up on him, thinking he was dead in the water in terms of his grades. Alabama never gave up on him and he managed to pull the chestnuts out of the fire academically. The point is, sometimes you don't give up on a guy. You have to dig a little deeper and find out what's the story with a kid's grades or test score. </font>
