Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I was wondering what happened on that play. Guess this explains it. I'm not sure how I feel about "gadget plays", in some ways they reek of desperation.

I wasn't asking if the play was prohibited (obviously it's not), just whether the reference to [the game that is not to be discussed] was allowed.

Thinking about that Tackle Eligible play. Can you imagine the defense's reaction if we ran that play with Andre Smith?

Yeah I saw the thread after posting this. I was thinking more about the "gadget play" aspects.

A player with a lineman's number coming onto the field to play another position has to report in with the refs now. That probably takes the surprise away.

What gets me is that the refs didn't see the obvious false start by the center. He steps to pitch it before the ball is moved!
