oh yeah, we are painfully thin at LB

Some of you guys are acting like teenagers. First, I don't think it is wise for us, a program twice put on probation in the 90's, to start hurling stones at other programs for their recruiting tactics. The overused "$" is lame.

Also, if anyone has a clue about our defensive line and linebackers, they would know we are stacked. This is the unfortunate knock against us this year - we are stacked, they won't get early playing time. I would have hoped that later in the game the lack of verbals would get a few signed (and we probably end up with a few anyway), to say that we are "painfully thin" at LB is just plain ignorant of what we have coming back next year.

We are not thin on defense. We were thin on offensive line but we did a great job of loading up on that - in fact, we are in the hunt for the best in the nation.

It is not that we didn't want to get defensive lineman and linebackers, but to get your pants tied in knots over it makes you look like a whining "barner" you so much despise.

I'm not sure anybody who is saying anything about us being thin on the DL will lose any sleep over next year or even the year after that. Being one of these people, I'm more worried 4 or 5 years from now when, unless somebody moves (which is probable), we won't have the senior leadership we need to compete for championships (a situation that is eerily similar to what we went through this year on the OL). As for linebacker, I think we signed some good ones this year regardless of Wright's status but we sure count on those guys a lot to fill holes, cover ground and make tackles so they all need to pan out. Its hard to look 4 or 5 years down the road with any certainty and this may be one of those things that works itself out but its not overly pessimistic to make the observation that we could have used a little more help on D. But in the end you sign the kids who want to play at UA. I think this class has made us a better, deeper team.

It's all good guys!!!

I know this whole recruiting process is driving us all crazy, but we have to look at this year as a complete success. As far as the in-state war goes, we so far have eight of Alabama's top 25 recruits, and the barn has seven. If we are fortunate enough to get AS, then we will have the #1 recruit in Alabama, and would have beaten the barn by two recruits. As far as this "star" system that a lot of people are worried about goes, this is the best recruiting class we've had in recent memory according to the "stars". This year we are averaging 3.57 stars per recruit, and getting Andre will boost that significantly. Last year we averaged 3.03 stars, and the year before we averaged 2.9. I personally don't really pay any attention to these stars. The reason... let me tell you. Demeco Ryans, Juwan Simpson, Ken Darby, Simeon Castille, Bobby Greenwood, and many others were all given 3 stars coming out of highschool. All of those guys (with the exception of maybe BG, but he'll be there soon enough) have proven themselves to be great players. I mean Demeco was a first team All American for crying out loud. So give our coachs some credit, and have a little faith. If CMS could do what he did last year with a roster hampered by probation, just imagine what he'll be able to do with the talent coming in this year.

RTR baby... we're back and try to convince me otherwise!!! :biggrin2:

I see that Marcus Sims hasn't committed to anyone. I wonder where he's going? Weren't we in the mix there at one time?

Or...if you've looked at his myspace site and connected any dots, it seems the girlfriend is 15 or 16 in HS in Orlando. 257 miles to Talahassee, 639 miles to Tuscaloosa. I'm sure there's no chance that this would make any difference to a 18 year old entering his last semester of high school.

Never mind that he apparently grew up following FSU.

Would have loved to have had him, but I can see a number of reasons why this makes sense for him.

Would it be possible that, short of conclusive and substansive proof of specific offense, everyone could just give the $ thing a rest? It's pretty tired.

Leadership doesn't come by age. It comes by experience. You can be a leader without having to be a senior. We can have plenty of juniors that can step up and be a huge leader. Simeon Castille, if I'm not mistaken, will be a junior next year. He will be a huge leader in the DB. It's because he has experience and not because he is old. Yes, in order to have leadership, you need to be older, but if the oldest person is a junior (Castille) then they can step up and be a leader. I think the same will happen with this class on the DL and LB. Just because we haven't gotten many recruits from these two areas doesn't mean we won't have leaders there, it just means they may be juniors that step up when we don't have seniors to lead.

Am i the only one on this board who has seen this kid's myspace, and thought "maybe we're better off" Don't want to bash any kid, because that's not what this is about, but Rouse comes to mind.

That wasn't a picture of a tea leaf on his site.

I can't say that I agree with how late he de-committed from Bama and then denied it even though Bama Mag reported him committed to FSU. We all knew that he was headed to FSU. His apparent personal web site was actually removed from this board because of objectionable content. I say lets wish him good luck except when Bama and FSU play.

How many times did he change

his mind? I think he decommitted from W VA to Alabama and at the 11th hour goes to F$U. I viewed his web site once and he had changed his slogan to "Only God can judge me". Perhaps he might change it again to, "Only God knows what goes on in my brain". Yes. I know that he is only 18 years old.

Do not view this if you don't want to see Wright wear a Bama hat while he signs his LOI and then hold up a FSU LOI and then change to an FSU hat. I posted this link because I just accidentally came across it and I thought some people might want to see what a classless hat switch looks like. I think the only people that didn't know Wright was going to FSU were the people in that room.

What an idiot. If you want to switch your commitment, that's fine. Just do it with a little class. He'll fit perfectly at F$U. See you in 2007 Retardo, I mean Recardo.
