Robert Quinn Update?

According to Andrew Bone in a recent TideSports recruiting chat, Quinn is a heavy Alabama lean. He sounded confident that he'll sign with the Tide.

It sounds like we are in great shape for him. Considering that before we were on the outside looking in, seemingly, I would say that Saban's attention to him while he was having surgery and enduring the after-effects perhaps turned the Tide in our favor.

And honestly, of course I have no definite way of knowing this, I believe we have him higher on the board that we do Green or Harbin.

It definitely sounded like CNS' conduct during Quinn's medical problems really got his attention and the attention of his parents.

CNS showed Quinn some simple human compassion.........treated him like a person instead of a piece of meat. Speaks highly of Coach's character, IMO.

You're right. CNS told him and his parents that the scholarship offer still stood, even before anyone knew if he'd be able to resume his football career. That showed alot of class by CNS and I think it really showed Quinn and his parents that CNS is the real deal.

He may sign with the Tide, but I wouldn't call him a heavy lean, at least based on all other media publications. I have no inside information on Quinn, maybe Bone does.

I listen him in my "four I would like to have" but I am not that confident.

I really feel like Quinn is ours to lose. CNS made a HUGE impression on Robert and his family when he was having his medical issues. I think that goes a long way in our favor. JMO of course.

We've made up a LOT of ground on Quinn.

He's a beast, and I'm pretty sure we'd take him over Green and Harbin, if it came down to numbers crunching.

Wow! :eek2:

Since you mention Green and Harbin, any idea what they are waiting on? Considering the numbers are getting so tight, I would think they would commit to Alabama if that's where they want to go.

Is it possible the coaching staff is taking a wait and see approach with these two? In other words do we have players that the coaches have rated higher and they are waiting to see what happens with those players before they take Green or Harbin?

I agree with RTO, I think the staff has Quinn ahead of Harbin and Green on the board and are probably waiting to see how things pan out with him before they push for either Green or Harbin. I could be wrong but I think the pecking order of the three would be Quinn, Harbin, and then Green, if they were all going to play DE. Green has more flexibility in his future position so that could help his stock though.

Wow, how do you say "no" to one of those 3 guys? I guess I'd like to see Quinn and Harbin commit, but I would be just as happy with Green. I guess it's better to be in this position than on the outside looking in for any of them.

There is no doubt that Green is a great player, but after watching him in the SC game against Prattville, he needs some serious time in the weight room, IMO.

I believe BT's list is pretty accurate.

I agree.

If you look at pictures of him, he looks like a linebacker. If you knew nothing or him, and just saw pictures of him as some random football player, you would never think he is a defensive end.

As long as he is being recruited as a defensive end, and not as a linebacker (including the Jack position), then he will need some work in the weight room before he can contribute, in my opinion.

We seem to be in pretty good shape with Quinn. Burton Burns has been close to Quinn for 3-4 years according to what his HS coach told someone I trust. Green and Harbin may have both waited too long and will be on the outside looking in.

Really may be good in the long run IMO. If that happens, I believe we will have filled our positions very well.

Agreed.

If we close this class with Julio, Quinn and Harris, then regardless of what happens with Green / Harbin / Mclain / etc., you have to be absolutely thrilled with this class.

That said, though, I imagine we get two out of these three. I don't see where there is space to get all three unless we strike out with Julio or Harris, or perhaps both.

I disagree. There is absolutely enough room for all three of those guys. Jones and Harris are the kind of guys that would have a spot regardless of numbers and I believe Quinn is probably not far away from that status if he doesn't already have it. I don't know what the chances are of landing all three but you can book it that we'd take all three if they wanted to come.

I just don't know that we have the space.

I'm not totally convinced that we even have five spots available -- which would be what we would need if we get Julio and Harris plus these three -- and even if we did I am not convinced that we would use them in that manner.

We already have several defensive end / Jack commitments, do we really need to add three more? I would argue that there would be a higher marginal value if we signed another offensive lineman, tailback, or cornerback. If the aforementioned scenario played out, that would preclude us from signing someone like Antoine McClain, Alonzo Lawrence, Chris Tolliver, and others.

Now, all of that said, I think the odds of us going five-for-five with Julio, Harris, and the three defensive ends are quite small, so it is likely a problem that will never come to fruition. We'll probably strike out with one of those guys. I imagine the more likely scenario is that we get Julio, Harris, two of the three DE / Jack prospects, and then one of McClain / Lawrence / Toliver, etc.

Either way, I trust that the ol' Nicktator will do what is best and have us sitting pretty come National Signing Day.

I will, however, strongly stand by my assertion that this recruiting class, regardless of what happens with Quinn / Green / Harbin, will be simply outstanding. Even if we strike out with everyone left on the board, including Julio, this will still easily be the best class we've had at Alabama in ages.
