Here's a little something to break the tension a bit.

Last night the country music station was playing a Hee-Haw marathon. I was sitting at my in-laws eating a big plate of spaghetti when all of a sudden I heard the most irritating song ever. I think it was Lynn Anderson singing Rocky Top.

I tell ya I gagged and just about threw up right at the dinner table, and I am not embellishing.

Has anyone ever had a similar response to that vile song, no pun intended, or am I just crazy? :BigA:

Very Pavlovian. I like it!

I have thrown up after this song, before, but it might have been due more to being over-served on whiskey. I'll blame it on that hillybilly song anyway.

And the heck of it is, Rocky Top was a perfectly good bluegrass song before ut began playing it every time sometime not overly negative happens during a game. UT QB throws it away under heavy pressure on 3rd & 17? Time for a RT. 1047 times a game. *sighs*

Went to knoxville this year for the game. Never heard that song so many times in my life. They played it everywhere, even in the waffel house. It made me sick.

I've heard it a lot at games too, but the one time that takes the cake for me was in 1992 at the Chattanooga airport when Daddy Pres. Bush came to make a campaign speech. Air Force 1 was late, and there were about three high school bands there so they each took turns playing RT over and over and over. Boy was I glad when the Pres got there!!!

Absolutely!! They stole the song. I mean, there isn't one word about the U of T in it. At least our theme song is about our university and football program.

"Rocky Top" itself, is not mythical. It's the summit of Thunderhead Mountain, up above Cades Cove in the Smokeys. I've been there many times. In fact, one of my wife's former Swiss Army Knives resides somewhere around there permanently. Most of the creatures in the song are mythical, though. However, a friend of mine, former dean of students here at UAH, while warming up for her Appalachian Trail hike, did encounter a very contrary bear there...

On Fox Radio the host interviewed Erik Ainge referred to a teammate as Ainge's "partner in crime." I about drove off the road laughing because he ain't far from the truth with that statement (literally).

I pull for the SEC teams in the bowls but I have not, cannot and will not pull for UThug EVER!!! If they were playing a team from Iran . . . - Well you get the picture!!!

After hearing the UT fanbase yelling "f___ you bama" after their narrow victory this year, UT is number one on my you know what list. They even passed Tubbs.

That's why hearing Rocky Top makes me want to vomit. :BigA:

Lynn Renee Anderson born in N. Dakota and raised in California really didn't know any better. She did sing "I never promised you a rose garden". That was for the volmiteers and phatty britches. That song was played just after todays loss to Penn St. Also Freddie Fender sang "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights". That was dedicated to phatty also. :biggrin2:

I still rank the Univ. of MN band/roving radio station, etc. as one of the worst uses of Rocky Top I've ever heard.

I've never wanted to attack a disk jockey so much in my entire life. And THAT'S saying something, because I live near L. A. and I hate pretty much all of them

I went to the Outback Bowl today (it's just an hour away from I live) and while sitting in traffic, a woman in a car with Tennessee crap all over it asked the people in front of me - who had a Penn State license plate cover - if they could get in front of them.

The Penn State people said no and she flipped them off.
