My husband got that same email reply from the band director too. He had several misspellings, etc. in it. Makes me wonder about the education up there.

but they are a progressive university....and if you don't agree just ask them and they'll perform their Music City Bowl halftime show again

When the UM band played "Rocky Top" my thought was, that sucks. A nanosecond later I had forgot about it. They probably play "Oh Canada" at their hockey games too. Time to get over it.

How deep in the caves of Afghanistan does one have to go to not be aware of the bad blood between Alabama and Tennessee? Suggesting Minnesota may not have been aware of the issues doesn't give very much credit to Minnesota.

Not everyone's perceptions of football revolve around the South East, friends. Suffice it to say, they don't have the radio talk shows, the sports TV announcers, and TV writers all talking about it 24-7.

They may know it's a big rivalry, but that's not a certainty. Tennessee-Alabama is never listed in the top 10 rivalries of all time, that's Alabama-Auburn.

I honestly doubt people living in the Big 10 even give a crap.

Wait, wait, wait... which University is being classless here?

Their band member comes onto the board, in a hostile environment, offers his apologies, his band director's apologies, tries to explain and make amends, and we still give him crap?

Recently, or not, Rocky Top is the state song of Tennessee.

Yet, our fans keep attacking Minnesota and this poor kid and their fans. Why? What's the point? They've offered their apologies, now let it go. Is it not the Christian thing to do, to accept apologies and give forgiveness when asked? Is it not the Classy thing to do to be above it if it WAS a knock against us, instead of whining about it?

Let's be classy, and accept the apologies. Let it drop.

I still disagree about it being THE state song. It is only ONE of the official state songs. That's my whole point. Why would they pick that particular one? I'm a Tennessean born and bred, I've hated that song my entire life even before UT and the state adopted it because it's such a hillbilly song. I never wanted that image for my home state. Sorry, I'm getting off the subject here. :eek2:
