Saban announces that safety Rod Woodson is off the team -"mutally agreed it would be better for him to continue his career somewhere else."

Signee Wilson Love did not pass physical because of prior ankle injury, Saban said, and will not join Tide's team this fall.


Also WR signee Ronnie Carswell, who did qualify, will defer enrollment to January along with Wilson Love


Saban on the Dareus situation: "The investigation has been done. The NCAA will make a decision."


Dareus will be allowed to practice. Saban also said there are no players out of practice now because of injury, including DeQuan Menzie


Saban indicates that Brandon Gibson will start fall camp at wide receiver and Kendall Kelly will be back on defense, as he was in spring

Deion Belue is still waiting on academic qualification ... Saban said there are 104 guaranteed spots on the 105 as of right now

He was a real hard hitter, who (I thought) had a real chance of starting or at least substantial pt. He looked real good last year on ST.

If this is true I think it is a real loss of talent. In the past the players leaving the team had issues with work ethic, grades, following rules, anticipated a lack of playing time or simply a failure to progress in the talent arena.
Since I think Woodson is very talented, I will go out on a limb and say he didn't comply with some level of expectation CNS has for the players.

If that's the case, I wish him well and I am more than willing to lose the talent in order to maintain the high standards we expect of our players.

Moving on and focusing on the things we can control...

This is very surprising to me... Now, we're down to Mark Barron and Robert Lester as our scholarship safeties with more than one semester at UA. If depth chased him away, then I don't know what to say. Two starting jobs, three players, with one likely gone next year (of course, probably one coming back too...).

Someone is going to have to change positions to go to safety. A WR, RB, or CB.

I don't think this had anything to do with depth. Coach Saban said himself it was about accountability. No question that Woodson would have gotten a lot of playing time this year and probably started next year. I think this cements Kendall Kelly as a safety for this season...

I'm pumped about seeing Menzie back. That is a huge deal.

I love CNS having high standards and enforcing them in an even manner. Just when I think that I can't love CNS more...he does something cool and I do.
